| Homebrew/Downgrader General FAQ Homebrew/Downgrader General FAQ Homebrew Q: What is homebrew?
A: Homebrew are apps and games for the PSP made by a non-licenced developer, and released for free over the web. Q: What versions can run homebrew?
A: 1.00 and 1.50 can run homebrew from the main menu (see my guide on running homebrew on 1.5), 2.0 can run homebrew through the PHOTO menu, and 2.01-2.6 can run homebrew through a hacked GTA savegame. 2.7 and 2.71 cannot run homebrew, unless you count flash. Q: Why can you only use GTA on 2.01-2.6?
A: Because there are no other hacks. However, now we have more acess to the PSP, we could patch the PSP through GTA, and boot stuff from the menu. Downgrader Q: I have made a downgrader for 2.01-2.6!!
A: That is not a question. However, downgraders are impossible for any firmware other than 2.0, as the new GTA exploit only works on 2.5 and 2.6, but 2.01 is the only firmware that would not brick by downgrading. Q: How do I use the 2.0 downgrader?
A: First, got hold of the overflow.tif, h.bin, and index.dat included in the downgrader, and the 1.50 EBOOT.PBP. Then put, where X is your PSP drive letter:
overflow.tif in X:/PSP/PHOTO
h.bin and index.dat in X:/
EBOOT.PBP in X:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE (create it if it isn't there already)
Then, open the Photo menu on you PSP. It should go to a black screen - if it doesn't, try again. It should have some numbers. Let this run for 30 seconds, then turn off your PSP. When you turn it on, it will think it is v1.00. Run the 1.5 update. It will go smoothly until it gets to 99%, then an error will appear. Turn off your PSP, then on again. A screen will appear - this is the equivalent of the Blue Screen of Death. Don't worry though. Hit O, then run through the setup like you had got a new PSP. When you finish, you will be on 1.5.
Please leave comments, and things I should add!
EDIT, 27.4.07 - This is very badly outdated. Pay it no attention.
