you can as well emulate the firmware and play dit directly from the umd, that's what i'm doing, with this config:

umd select: umd disk
umd mount: umd disk
umd version: 2.xx->2.00
firmware: 2.50
cpu clock: 222mhz /111mhz
boot select: reboot xmb
