Alot of people are complaining that the Custom Firmware is either risky or hasnt got enough features. Let me enlighten you.
Dark_Alex's custom Firmware is 100% safe, and NO bricks have occured. If anything, it makes you more safe! It includes a recovery mode by holding R at startup, so you can recover a PSP that has been bricked by the program, or any bad gameboots, fonts etc.
The custom FW has great features. No K-Xploit'ed programs (You can use 1.0 EBOOTs), no corrupt icons, launch a program at startup instead of the XMB, and no, with the mods (explained below), launch a program at startup by holding L! (By default, it launches the last used firmware via devhook!) This means that if you want to use 2.71, just holde L at startup!

Below are instructions:
There already are AMAZING new features. Earlier today, mods were released for the custom firmwares, allowing for USB anywhere in the XMB, and screenshots. The best feature is the ability to launch a homebrew app whil booting by holding L! There is also a new recovery.elf which enhances recovery mode.
First, uninstall the previous custom firmware using the custom FW unflasher. Found here:
http://dl.qj.net/Custom-Firmware-Unf...8848/catid/114
Second, download these files:
http://dl.qj.net/Harleyg-s-Custom-Fi...8864/catid/114 http://dl.qj.net/Haryleyg-s-Custom-F...8865/catid/114
The second file is the custom fw. Extract all the neccessary files, and configure the config.txt in the SYSTEM folder to your liking. You can change the homebrew app booted by holding L at startup, as well as the options of the old custom fw.
Near the bottom of the cofig, you will see this line:
Quote:
|
#loadmodule0 = "ms0:/PSP/SYSTEM/AIOMod.prx"
|
You need to remove the '#' from the beginning.
Install the FW with the included application. DO NOT USE THE OLD ONE!
To install the enhanced recovery (DO THIS AFTER):
What I did, is place the recovery.ELF file into the root of your memory stick, and download this:
http://pspupdates.qj.net/Custom-Fir...pg/49/aid/58989
It launches the ELF. Then, choose the option to "Flash Recovery.ELF to Flash0".
Then you will have an enhanced recovery mode.
Don't attack me for posting news - we all know that nobody would've known for days. Besides, this isnt really news, it's more of an update!

EDIT: I'm very sorry, Admin. I didn't see that you had posted onto the main page. Feel free to delete. Perhaps what should happen, is a mod moves this thread to the Help section, renames it "Setting up Custom Firmware Mods" or something, and then I edit it to be just the installation. It's up to the mod's.
