0okm has just announced that he has successfully emulated UMDs on 2.6 firmware. This is great news for the PSP community; for the first time ever, a kernal mode application has been loaded on 2.XX firmwares. 0okm has released a handful of technical details about the findings in his blog, and has even posted a simple application which shows how it works. This should, in essence, allow for a 2.6 firmware ISO loaders soon enough, and eventually, much more homebrew as developers learn from the source code and apply the techniques elsewhere.
The topic of UMD emulation is
very borderline-sketchy. PSP3D.com does not promote UMD emulation for illegal purposes, but, unfortunately, more often than not, we have to accept that this is how these tools are used (or should I say, abused) in the PSP community. Therefore, we will not be hosting these tools under certain circumstances; we want to see the PSP scene grow, not fail. Do yourself, the PSP homebrewing community, and Sony a favor and stay legal.
