Sony has just released a new firmware update for the PSP, dubbed firmware 2.81. The update is, as regular with the .01 increment updates, more of a security patcher than a feature-filled update, and only adds a few not-so-important features, and the support for 4 GB or higher memory sticks on the PSP. As always, it would be smart to think twice about updating if you use homebrew, as there is no way to run unsigned code on firmware 2.81.
New features/fixes in firmware 2.81 include: Network:
- You can now download video and image content under [RSS Channel].
- You can now register devices via a wireless LAN access point under [LocationFree™ Player].
Video:
- You can now play AAC files with the .3gp file extension.
- [Automatic] has been added as an option under [Network Settings] > [Infrastructure Mode].
-Support for the playback of content stored in [MUSIC], [PICTURE] and [VIDEO] folders at the root level of Memory Stick Duo™ media has been added.
