I have a 5 GB Zen Micro, and I'm perfectly happy with it. I can play whatever file type I like, and so on. I've encouraged 3 other people to get them. They all did, and they all like them. One of them was sent a defective one, so it was sent back and all taken care of.
Not that ipods suck, but they truly aren't that great... Who needs an ipod nano? was the normal ipod just too big for you? I would never want something that small. I'd easily lose/misplace/break it. That, and if your battery starts to die, its going to be a pain in the ass to replace now, considering how thin they are... With older models, you could DIY, but they're probably too thin now and you'd end up breaking it. Sending it in to apple just adds to the price. Zen Micro has a removable battery. Battery starts dying? Whatever, I'll order one for 20 bucks.
Those are my words of wisdom.
