It would not be around forever, and Windows would NEVER agree to make a Windows OS for PS3. Sony nor Microsoft would agree - they are the biggest two competitors in the console industry right now. If ANYONE somehow magically managed to release a Windows OS for PS3, Sony would be pissed because it's... well just NAUGHTY and supporting a competitor's product, and Microsoft would be pissed because it would take sales away from the Xbox360.

If anything, Microsoft would only release a Windows OS for Xbox360. And they announced that after embedding Windows CE into the Sega Dreamcast that they would never release Windows for a console again, and they said that they had no plans to release Windows for Xbox360 but rather provide integration between Vista and Xbox360.... but erm, off topic....

I'm a fan of Windows on PC, and not of linux. Simply because it is the most developed + widely used operating system, so users of PC's will get the most fun out of it with Windows. But since Linux will be officially supported on the PS3, and Sony is allowing unsigned / 3rd party code execution, then we are better off with the flexibility of Linux anyway.

Thing is, PS3 announced that homebrew will be allowed and supported, and we now know that it will ALWAYS be that way, unless they ban users of the Linux. The reason for this is because it is a violation of the GNU to have a build of Linux on any platform which does NOT allow execution of 3rd party code.....
