Due to the hype over the soon-to-be-released PSP firmware version 3.00 over the last few days, FreePlay set up Firefox so that hitting the 'Home' button loaded up the same set of text files that the PSP uses to check for updates over the Internet. Much to his surprise, he saw that a new version was available!
Sure enough, firmware 3.00 has been RELEASED via Network Update! The download weighs in at a full 21 megabytes, compared to firmware 2.82's 20MB.
The following changes are noted:
* Revisions to strengthen security have been added.
* PLAYSTATION(R)Network titles are now supported under [Games].
* [Remote Play] has been added as a feature under [Network].
* [Online Instruction Manuals] has been added as a feature under [Network].
* Timed recording has been added as a feature under [RSS Channel].
* A visual player has been added as a feature under [Music].
* 3-speed fast forward and fast reverse has been added as a feature under [Music].
* [Camera] has been added as a feature under [Photo].
* [UMD(TM) Auto-Start] has been added as a feature in [System Settings] under [Settings].
A word to the wise: though we don't have all the details yet, we can pretty much
guarantee that updating to firmware 3.00 will eliminate any chance you have of using homebrew in the near future, save for any miraculous discoveries in the coming weeks.
The first one obviously means "no exploits for you," so if you're a homebrew fan, avoid firmware 3.00! Otherwise, enjoy 3.00.
