what the TA-82/6 patcher does is replace the internal keys that the PSP uses to identify itself as a TA-82. The patcher just replaces those with the older motherboard ones, making your PSP belive it's a non-TA-82. Once you run that program, you can do anything all of us with older PSP's can. The only problem I have heard (but not confirmed) is that if you try to upgrade to 3.03 with the official Sony upgrader, then downgrade to 1.50, and upgrade again, you could brick the PSP. But this hasn't been a problem in the custom firmwares.
