There will be another modchip released soon - the PSP Devolution chip. Well, it's sort of a modchip - the page describes it as a "pretty sophisticated USB-JTAG programmer for a lot of NAND flash ICs." This basically means you can reflash your firmware (or another firmware) through USB. The chip has no onboard flash, but that is not needed.

It also can be installed in any PSP (including TA-082+), something the UP never got round to. However, there will be two versions, one for TA-079-TA-081 and another for TA-082+. It's also gonna be a lot cheaper than the UP, because of the lack of onboard flash.
