The launch day PSPs had all the problems you mentioned; Sony has fixed them. The square button being wobbly was because of a minor error in PCB placement under the external shell of the PSP (which has been fixed), the UMD drive was shaky because of a latch loosening up issue (which has been fixed), the device has been improved all around as far as durability (so not as many creaking noises), and the dreaded dead pixels issue was alerted to the screen manufacturer and most current PSPs are completely void of dead (or, more properly, stuck) pixels.
Most people have these problems (including myself, I own a pre-launch day unit myself) and deal with it, but if its getting to the point wherein your PSP experience is unpleasant, you could try to give SCEA technical support a call and maybe get your hands on a RMA.
