Review: Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron

So I went out and rented Star Wars Battlefrount Renegade Squadron and let me tell you. This is one sweet game. If you have played Star Wars Battlefront 2 for PSP you will notice some major differences and a lot of similarities. For one thing, the online play.

Single Player:

Single player is the same old same old. But that's a good thing. The Battlefront game play is awesome and if it's not broken, why fix it? There is one major difference between other Battlefront games and this one. You have a special menu where you can change your skin and your weapon. You now do not choose your class before you respawn. Everything (skin, weapon) is done in the customization menu. Through the menu you can also add some abilities such as faster running, regeneration of health, etc...

My only complaints are that some of the maps are the same from Battlefront 2 or slimmed down maps from the console versions of Battlefront 2. My other complaint is cheap weapons. Mainly the rocket launcher and flamethrower. Those weapons are so lame. Especially in multiplayer.

Multiplayer:

Multiplayer isn't much different from single player. In fact, it's the same exact thing! Which isn't a bad thing. One thing I love is that this game is ONLINE! And it's not just sharing stats like in other games, it has online gameplay. Finally something other than Socom (lame! ) to play online with the PSP. So far, while playing online, I have not experienced any lag at all. Which is definitely awesome in a shooter like this. Sadly I am the only person in my town with a PSP so I have not had a chance to play AD Hoc multiplayer, but I would assume it isn't much different. The general grievances (ha Star Wars joke) I have with the multiplayer is that it is done through Gamespy and how people use cheap weapons and rack up 50 kills in 3 minutes. Also waiting for a spawn time is lame, but it does help keep lag down.

Overall:

This is an awesome game. If you are looking for a good PSP Star Wars game (because I know we were all disappointed with Lethal Alliance) or a good online shooter, or replacement for Socom, then I suggest picking this game up. It is rated T for Teen so I wouldn't suggest getting this for your son's 5th birthday. Even though it's $40, it's well worth every penny. I have already ordered it offline so look for me while playing online. My name is dq9 on there .
