I can't see any disadvantages... registering will only give you
advantages.
1. If your PSP gets stolen/lost, Sony knows who the real owner is (you may be able to retrieve it, who knows).
2. Warranty benefits.
3. Freebies from Sony (as mentioned by gdspsp, demos and the like).
Not registering won't due anything for you either. So I suppose it's better to get registered, since there is no reason not to... AFAIK.
