Not really. You need a Pandora no matter what, unless you want to install a modchip (which cost more, and are harder to find, than pre-made Pandoras). It's possible to make the Magic MS (that the Pandora needs) on your computer, but the Pandora can only be made with either a homebrew-capable PSP or with a lot of soldering ability, or you could buy one online.

But it will be easier if you can pry one off your friend. So try to get it off him first.
