My Ultimate Homebrew Guide

Hey I am new here and for my very first post I am going to post my homebrew guide. This guide explains nearly everything about installing homebrew. I am an expert in homebrew and I am also a moderator of another forum. If you have any questions please PM me or Email me at baber0015@hotmail.com. I also use Msn Messenger.

This is my guide to install just about all homebrew. Hope it helps!

Before you get started, make sure you have these things:

1) Firmware 1.50 PSP
2) Memory Stick
3) WinRar (WinRar is a file extraction program that can be found at www.rarlabs.com )

INDEX

A) Emulators
B) Roms
C) Homebrew Applications
D) Fastloader & ISO'S
E) Homebrew Games

A) Emulators

The first step to getting an emulator is to know what system you want to emulate. There are many to chose from including NES and the SNES. You can get emulators at http://files.pspupdates.qj.net/cgi-b....cgi?0,0,0,1,2. Now you can download the emulator and we can get started. The first thing you want to do is extract all the files using WinRar, assuming you already set up WinRar. To extract the files, right click on the Rar or Zip archive and select "Extract Here" or "Extract Files". If the Rar or Zip archive that you downloaded is on the desktop, then just hit "Extract Here". If it is somewhere else, then hit "Extract Files" and select that the files be extracted to the desktop. After it is done extracting, you should see some folders. If it is one folder, open the folder and look around to find 2 folders, one with just a name and another with a similar name but with a % symbol on it. These are the 2 folders that you need. Now if you have 2 folders when you extract then you should see those 2 folders... If not, look around in the files you extracted. If you do not have any folders at all or if you cant find the 2 folders that you need, dont panic. All you need to do is use a tool called SeiPSPTool. You can get Sei at http://files.pspupdates.qj.net/cgi-b...0,1,0,0,40,910. Once you install all of that, find the EBOOT file that was extracted to wherever you extracted the files to. Now open Sei and follow the Read-Me that is included to get the correct folders you need onto your PSP. Ok now back to the 2 folders. Once you have those, (if you used Sei then they are already installed on your PSP and you can stop reading) you can put them on your PSP by putting both the folder with and without the % symbol in the GAME section of you Mem. Stick. And BOOM you are done. All you need now are cool ROMS. I will explain how to install those next.

B) Roms

To install Roms, you must have the matching emulator. For instance if you have an NES emulator, then you must have an NES Rom. Once you find and download a Rom, just put the file you downloaded into the folder without the % symbol of the emulator that the Rom goes to. So if I have NesterJ, I would put the Roms into the folder without the % in the GAME section of your Mem. Stick. There, your done and you can enjoy Roms! If you still cant get it to work, then PM me and I will help. NOTE: You will have to extract the files just like with emulators. And if you extract more than 1 file, just choose any of them and put it in the correct folder. If the Rom you selected doesnt work, then try another one that you extracted. To play the Rom, go into the Game menu on your PSP and select the program of your emulator. Once on the main menu, a list of Roms should appear. Just select the one you want.

C) Homebrew Applications

Installing Homebrew Applications on your PSP is just like installing emulators. Just download the application you want and extract the files and find the 2 folders, one with the % and one without. When you find those, put them in the GAME section of your Mem. Stick and then the program should work. If it does not, refer to the Read-Me of the file you downloaded for specific installation steps that I didnt mention. To use the application, just select it from the Game menu on your PSP.

D) Fastloader and ISO'S

1) Fastloader

Installing Fastloader is a bit like installing emulators or homebrew apps but a little different. With Fastloader, you extract the files and find folders called: ISO, ISOMISC, and ISOSPLIT. You will need these files first. Put all three of these files into the ROOT of your Mem. Stick. The ROOT of your memory stick is the place where the folders PSP and MP_ROOT are. NOT IN MP_ROOT. Just put those 3 files there and your done with that part. Now you must find the folders with the % symbol and one without. You take those folders and put them into your GAME section just like you did with the emulators and homebrew apps.

2) ISO Installation

Now you need ISO'S. Once you found the ISO's, put the ISO file into the folder called ISO on the ROOT of your Mem. Stick. And thats it!

3) Playing ISO'S

To play the ISO, just open Fastloader in the Game menu and select the ISO you want to play from the main menu.

4) Creating your own ISO

To dump a UMD that you already have, just insert the UMD and go to the game menu and select Fastloader. Once on the main menu, you should see a list of ISO's that you have installed on your PSP and you should also see "DUMP INSERTED UMD". Select that and wait. It will say "Erasing Flash". That is just a joke dont worry. Now it will take awhile but after its done dumping you can find the ISO file that you made in the ISO file of your ROOT.

NOTE: To dump a UMD, you have to have enough space to hold the dump. That means you have to have a 512mb or 1GB memory stick. To hold a downloaded ISO, you need at least 512mb unless its a small game then it might fit on a 256mb stick.

E) Homebrew Games

Installing Homebrew Games is just like installing emulators and apps. Just extract and find the 2 folders. Then put them into the Game section on your Mem. Stick. To play it, just select it from the list on the Game menu on your PSP.

Well thats it. If you are still lost or confused just PM me and I will try to help you.
