No, you can use the newest ones. In fact, those work the best. Make sure you extract all of the contents of the ISO file (of the game you are using) and put it in its own folder under neogeocd. So say I jhsut extracted all of the stuff from the iso for Metal Slug. You would then put/extract this under PSP/GAME/neogeocd/Metal Slug.
