i worked at an ISP in australia for a few years, and every day we'd get e-mails from most major tv shows/music companies etc sending warning e-mails to us for us to inform our customers to stop downloading stuff, sharing it etc. Mainly on bit torrent. Same with applications and stuff. But no one really pays attention.

They basically scan for the name of their product/application/movie/music/song/artists etc etc and anyone sharing it, they copy ur IP address down and time, then when the time comes they send a list to your ISP a long with a whole heap of names asking for the addresses/names of the people who were on at the specific time, and bam, u get a lawsuit sent to ur house
