Datel 4GB Hard Drive "SOLUS" Pack Released!

Didn't feel like shelling out $250 for the original, 4 GB hard drive and X2 MAX battery combination (at launch)? Well now Datel is offering a standalone version of their 4 GB hard drive for the PSP, for only $149. Now that's a decent price, considering 2 GB memory sticks are found around $100 (depending on where you look). However, it is also important to note that the once $250 package of 4 GB hard drive and X2 battery now only costs a mere $169, $20 more than just the hard drive. So you really aren't saving that much, if anything.

But the Datel 4 GB hard drive, really a microdrive, still has its problems. It's fragile, slow, and... bulky. Although we don't exactly know how this "SOLUS" version works/looks, the picture above that Datel uses to represent it is a mock-up, the actual add-on itself has an added two inches of bulk, with the regular pack. To make this situation even worse, the main reason why Datel originally introduced the hard drive with a large capacity battery was because of the huge battery consumption of the 4 GB hard drive. With a regular battery, heck, I'd be suprised if your PSP lasted an hour, playing a movie from the hard drive at full brightness and max volume. It's going to be interesting to see how Datel pulled this one off!

Check it out now at Lik-Sang here.
