Yeah Photo works great on ones that are converted to image files. But if you got firmware 1.0,1.5 or 2.0 and want to be able to read .pdf and .txt formated book files then your best bet is getting "Bookr" Homebrew I think the newest release version is 0.6 but I use it for books,etc. It works really great and is easy to read/use. You can adjust the size and colors of the text too
