Help!!! my windows 98 is toast! ok my computer is NOT hooked up to the net,so theres no virus. but everytime i boot it up it goes Straight to the blue screen of death. it says like "win32krnl.exe has made a fault" and stuff like that. is there any way to fix it from a command promp? i have already tried safe mode but the mouse dosnt work and neither does norton. anyone know whats wrong?
please help!!!  |

Points: 0.09 Donate | | It sounds like to me you might have to reinstall win98 all together from scratch. You can try to wipe out the whole HD and then reinstall win98 with a fresh copy of it and hopefully that will solve the prob. Oh, in case you didn't kno already when in command prompt just type in format C: to format the HD but doing so will erase the entire HD. Then start the reinstall win98. GL!

Points: 22.21 Donate | | Sounds Like your some of your system files have become corrupt, try running scandisk using a boot disk, if it doesn't fix it you could reinstall windows 98 or why not use windows xp or vista. as last time i went from xp back to 98 i changed a few settings and bang it wouldn't boot any more 
p.s. if you need 98 for a reason (scanner that only works in 98 etc) you might wanna try dual booting 98 and xp.

Points: 70.84 Donate | | | simple to fix. Go get a a live cd that boots from cd or usb. From there load the win 98 cd and replace the kernal.

Points: 22.21 Donate | | a normal dos boot disk would do, just remember on the windows 98 setup disk the file will be named WIN32KRNL._XE just rename to win32krnl.exe and over write the old one

Points: 30.04 Donate | | | when you install xp, it will automaticly detect windows 98. But I highly recomend partitioning your hard drive first, and install xp to the second partion.
