The words I know many of you longed to here: I have decided to finish what I started: CTU OS.
For those of you who don't know, and those who are familiar with the concept but not the details, Ill fill you in:
You play a remote-maintainance worker for the Counter Terrorism Unit, LA. Your job is to manage tasks and resources should CTU LA's system infrastructure take a hit.
Today is the day where such event occurs, leaving you, and a handful of other agents, to cope with an imminent terrorist threat.
Well, you say, you already attempted this. You said it was too much work Chrispy, why do you think you can do it now?
Well, anonymous skeptic, 2 reasons
1. I am about 10* better at programming than I was at my last attempt. Granted I havent Programmed for the PSP alot recently, but I am learning C++ and am already an efficient programmer. I have establised a few succesful projects for windows in the Delphi IDE, which bears many resemblences to C++.
2. This time I expect to get the help I need. I expect I will need 1-2 lua AND c++ programmers, 1-2 gfx artists, and a whole bunch of people who most modders consider talentless, and the very same people I consider just as important: concept people. I need a story, I need missions, I need every little detail of how this game is going to be played laid out so that I can sit down, write the code and smile.
"lua and c++? This guy is crazy!!!"
No I am not. I plan on making the 'game' quite true to life as far as OS structures go. I will make the 'kernel', that is majority of the workings of the actual system, open source lua. The reason for this is that, as part of the storyline, I will leave bugs in the source code on purpose, that the user must fix themselves throughout the 24 hours the game is set across. The first few will be minor, and the user will be guided through. By hour 24, the user should be proficient enough in the DoDLua (proprietary lua language used to program and alter the code) to write their own small peices of software to complete missions.
Thats right, the game will teach you some programming!
The game will comprise of 'software,' minigames of sorts, that the user uses to accomplist mission objectives. This will range from a text editor to a full scale field agent deployment module.
After the beta2, ie public beta, based on feedback, I plan to take 1-3 modules multiplayer, allowing you to combat terrorists or Counter terrorists from around the globe in an online, ranked game.
It is ambitious, and it will take work. But I am confident that with community support, it can be done.
Combining RPG elements of team management and upgrades, with technical elements like programming and hacking, all at a level that any user can be come proficient in hours, maybe minutes, CTU OS is sure to be a success, provided it gets the help it needs.
Thanks for reading this. I know its a lot, but I want people to see just how though out this really is.
Admins, if this made it to the front page I have no doubt that I would receive the support I need. If you even consider my proposal, contact me and I will provide artwork from preliminary code to spice up the news page a little
