#1, very true, but shouldn't matter.
#2, Yep, the umd laser is rated at 660 nm insted of 780 nm used by conventional cd's, and 650/655 nm (dvd's are dual layer, remember?) used by DVD's.

P.S. I love useing my work's equipment for useless stuff.

you´d need to modify the "lifter" on the dvdrom also, else you´re blinking a big part of the disc
