FYI: There has never been a "sound exploit", and no, you cannot redirect anything but fonts. The only reason that works is because Sony decided, strangely, to put the path to the fonts in flash1, which we can edit. Flash0, we cannot.

And yes, a hardware modification is the best bet for downgrading.

That's where you're wrong. The PSP's sound and video drivers have been inspected rather exhaustively and have shown no potential for exploits.
