Unhappy ratchet and clank woes...

i purchased R&C size matters yesterday. i tried playing it for the first time today. it loads icon and bkgrd on xmb, but when i launch the game it shows sony splash screen then goes black. while the screen is black i can hear the disc spinning and the laser module moving, but the game freezes nothing shows on screen and no sounds. I am running 3.03 oe-c f/w. i toggled the region free setting in recovery mode but no avail. i dont use any plug-in modules on the f/w. i am going to go back to work and see if the disc is defective by checking another disc or two. if anyone has had the same experience please post. also if you did eventually get it to work please post a "how-to."

thanks in advance

Not having the game, I wouldn't know exactly what the problem is, but you could try using Devhook if nothing else succeeds.

EDIT: Just found something out. Try setting the CPU clock to 266 Mhz, and if that doesn't work, 333Mhz. To do this...
  • Turn off your PSP.
  • While holding R, turn it back on.
  • Go down to the CPU Speed menu, and press X.
  • Toggle the 'Speed in UMD/ISO' option to whatever you want. Try 266, then 333 if it doesn't work.
  • Click on Back, then Exit.

Hope that helped!

EDIT 2: You may need to update to 3.10 OE-A then change the clock speed.

thanks dorkdork,
adjusting the umd cpu speed to 266 mhz made it run. i''l start playing now and see if there are any further issues. add another tally to your helped-out count please

Edit: makes me wonder if some games run the cpu at a higher speed than 222 mhz, and if so, that the custom f/w might possibly not allow the games to adjust the cpu speed?

Basically, the PSP has a 333 Mhz CPU, with Mhz being how fast it is. However, games and the XMB are usually set to 222 Mhz, as anything higher drains battery life faster, but makes the system smoother. This is especially useful in emulators, where games need all the power they can get.

so it is like a boost of energy for the psp, but Sony doesn't use it?

Nice job! I've personally never played that game, but by the sounds of it, it must certainly appeal to some people! I'll have to try it out some day.

I'm kinda growing into liking Mercury Meltdown, it's extremely addictive. Any PSP game with blobs is awesome, aka Loco Roco!
