Grand Theft Auto IV Review

I know that GTA IV is not for the PSP, but many of us have access to a console where GTA IV can be played. So here is my review of GTA IV.

Note: GTA IV is rated M for MATURE for a reason. It is intended for adults and adults only. Do not buy this for your kids.

M - Mature

Many reviews gave Grand Theft Auto IV a perfect score. They said it was the crown jewel in the series. It will most likely receive Game of the Year from many people. I'm not going to say that. Now don't get me wrong, this game isn't bad. In fact, it's far from bad. It is very well thought out and put together. However it's not perfect.

Gameplay

Sandbox gaming was created by the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series. It is also nothing new to us, so it's up to Rockstar to give us something new, and boy do they deliver. Missions are not just a cut scene then a mafia hit, you can now take some missions at your own pace. For example in one mission, you have to kill one man who happens to be gay. So you have to go onto a dating site and set up a date with the man. You can see where this is going. Sadly, this feature doesn't happen often. Many missions are the same thing we have been seeing in every GTA game ever. Kill this guy, follow that guy. One other drawback in gameplay is there are to many things to do. You have TV, internet, taking your friends out, dating, driving around, the list goes on! Casual gamers will lose interest in the story very easily with all these distractions.

Driving and Shooting

Rockstar has made several improvements in the shooting and driving mechanics. Now to aim your gun, keep in mind I have only played the Xbox 360 version, hold down the left trigger all the way to aim at a specific target or half way to free aim. While this sounds difficult, it is quite easy to get used to. Although in a pinch, it can be a pain. Especially when the game aims at the wrong target. However, this is a major improvement from past games in the GTA series. It still isn't perfect though. Driving is now more realistic. You can no longer go top speed around corners with out skidding out of control. This takes a while to get used to, but it is better than previous games.

Overall

Many improvements have been made to the series and many still need to be made. One improvement needs to be a different location. We have been to Liberty City many times and it's getting a little old now. While the entire city was remade, Rockstar please give us something new! And something a little bigger, like San Andreas, would be nice as well. The ability to take other characters on a "date" is a nice addition, but it does get annoying, FAST!

8/10

dating has been in gta since san andreas, and in vice city stories you have that white trash chick(never beat the game so idk if you actually date her)

san andreas's map was huge, but a large percent of it was "dead space", which means places like desert where there is nothing to do for miles. the new liberty city is a smaller map, but has as much in it as all the other gta's put together.

also not only did they completely remake liberty city, they completely took out stauton island and replaced it with whatever the first island is in gta IV(i forget the name). so at least the first island is new.

EDIT: in the first grand theft auto, you played in liberty city, vice city, and san andreas, which is why all of the big gta's have taken place in them, in that order.

there was also a gta: london 1969, so they might make another gta and have it take place in london, and then either make a whole new place, re-use san andreas, or even stop making gta's all together.

I know, but it was not forced on you to do.

I like the dead space. Made it feel more realistic. Don't get me wrong though, I did like the GTA IV map, just a little small for my tastes.

The entire city was redone. My thing was how many times can you remake a city? Is Rockstar going to do this with Vice City and San Andreas too? If so, GTA may not be on the top of my list any more.

Trivia: In GTA 1, San Andreas was just a city. Not an entire state.

Yeah man i bought GTA IV for Xbox 360 the day after it came out. I was entertained for hours. The story is Amazing, and online playw as a little odd but still fun. I never beat it though =( i sold it to someone for some $$$, so i could buy a new PSP(old 1 was broken).

but i have to say compared to any other Grand theft auto this is probaly the best, if not, it stills kicks ass! I thought the driving was alot different but its still an awesome game! nice review also!

I really wish I had a 360 so I could play this. I played it once at my friend's house, but the analog stick on his controller was screwed up, so you could barely walk or drive.

I don't know about the PS3 version, but on the 360 version movement is entirely on the analog sticks.
