Silent Hill Origins Review

gameplay
Using weapons take a little getting used to. Having to hold R and use X but it is fun experimenting with the different weapons you find through out the game from different guns to boards of wood, TVs and even Drip stands from a hospital.

There are some great puzzles in this game too that really make you think but if you find the right notes in the area that gives you hints they aren’t that difficult. They are fun though. The most frustrating puzzle I found was at the end. Trying to but the pyramid pieces together. It was kind of like a Rubik’s cube.

There are actually two worlds in the game the foggy world and the dark world that you traverse using mirrors. That you find through the game. The foggy weird is the deserted city with some enemies but the dark world is where you fight the bosses in the game. Some puzzles can only be solved by traveling between the worlds like at one point there is a key in a drain that you can’t reach because the drain is covered in the foggy world but in the dark world there is no cover over the drain. That is also how you get around some locked doors by going to the other world, traveling through and ending up on the other side of the locked door which is a concept I really like.

There are also multiple (I think three)endings and different things that can be unlocked after beating the game.

graphics
The graphics are great for the game. Every little detail makes the creepy atmosphere of the game even better from creepy drawings on the wall in the hospital area from the deserted run down city. The great graphics I think is in the dark world where things are rusted and buildings are destroyed. A lot of details are in the creatures you encounter. If you get a chance to look at an enemy you can see the detail of their bodies. It’s hard to do with them trying to kill you though.

soundtrack
A good soundtrack really helps make a game and this game has it, a creepy soundtrack for a creepy game. From the opening music to he end of the game the music really helps you get into the game. It even says when you start the game that it is suggested to play in the dark with earphones to get the real feel of the game

controls
The controls are pretty easy to handle just as mentioned earlier that you have to get used to hold R and using X to attack. You can do special attacks by holding X or using X and the forward direction button. Another kind of annoying thing you have to get used to is holding Square while moving to run because you run a lot. It is not always a smart idea to fight enemies. By using X you can examine different things in the game and get hints on what is going.

story
The story is supposed to set it up for the other Silent Hill games (honestly I’ve never played them before heard they were good though). The story is sort of predictable but not terrible like some games. Just like the rest of the game’s elements it is a creepy story that will draw you into he game and keep you playing

Overall
This is a great PSP game and a must have for people who enjoy and are fans of the Silent Hill series or for someone who enjoys a horror genre game. I give it a 10/10
