Here is my review for Medievil Resurrection a PSP remake of an old Playstation 1 game. Warning there will be a lot of reference and comparisons to the old game
gameplay
Since the last game they have added some new stuff. The minigames you find through the levels are fun and give the game variety but can be kind of annoying like the one where you have to shoot the ducks in Sleepy Village.
They have added new weapons to this remake and some old classics have returned such as the crossbow, the different swords and chicken drumstick. The also added a new sword that is very powerful called the Woden's Brand but I can only unlocking by playing through all the games in Gallowmere Plains. They have also added new combo moves that can be done with different weapons giving more variety when using weapons and it can be fun to experiment with the different moves.
A lot of the old enemies and bosses return in this game. Including one of my favorites The stain Glass Demon from the hilltop mausoleum and the stone wolves in the level when you go back to the graveyard. There are also new enemies like the skeletons and a new boss called Mad Axeman a psychotic axe-wielding maniac with the intelligence of a child.
The gameplay can be sort of glitchy at times and there are some slight camera issues at times but those are my only complaints about the gameplay of this game
graphics
The graphics are decent but they are not as dark as the original. See screenshots below of the scarecrow Fields level:

Playstation 1

PSP
I know they aren't the best pictures but that's all I could find. You can see a lot further in the PSP remake then in the original. Even the Hall of heroes was a dark place but in this one it’s a bright with a blue-sky background and clouds
soundtrack
The thing about the soundtrack I liked is that they reused some of the music from the original games which gives someone like me who played the original a nostalgia thing. The game includes a variety of music from level to level.
controls
The controls are pretty easy to get used to. Using the shoulder buttons to strafe and holding R while attacking allows you to pull off some different moves with weapons. The controls are very similar to the original so if you played that you shouldn’t really have a problem with the controls.
storyline
This is where my review may get a bit ugly. They added too much story in this remake of a pretty good PS1 game. They added a new character an annoying genie stuck in your character’s skull. He doesn’t do anything. He just yaps and tries to give you advice but what he tells you is pretty obvious anyway. Plus the fact he is a huge stereotype of someone from the mid-east.
There is also the annoying narrator that says something every time you start a level, which gets annoying. Not to mention the fact that the story in the original was simple Sir Dan (Your character) was out to kill Zarok the evil sorcerer his enemy to redeem himself for his past. In this remake however they added the search for an item called the Anubis Stone which complicates things. The designers also but too much comedy into the story. I mean the old one had it’s funny little moments but this has too much which doesn’t make the game as dark as it’s supposed to be.
Overall
I liked just about everything about this game except the story which I think they butchered since the original game for the PS1 because of that I wouldn’t suggest this game to a fan of the original Medievil game. I give this game a 6/10
