Metal Gear Ac!D Review

I kept forgetting to write this because I've been busy with other stuff so here is my review for the card based turn based PSP game Metal Gear Acid.

Gameplay
I'm not going to sugarcoat this. the gameplay can be a hassle. It has a sharp learning curve. Learning the card and cost system can be a pain. The fact is unless you make sure you're covered when it's your turn you're screwed if you get seen by your enemies because the game is turn based and you're pretty much helpless when it isn't your turn unless you use certain cards to avoid attacks (evade cards), card like stealth (that keeps you hidden) or a weapon card to defend yourself. There are times you need certain cards to get through a situation and if you don't have them in your hand you have to wait till you draw it or if you don't have it in your deck you have to make due with what you have which can be a real hassle. An issue I have with the game is to get through an automatic door you have to actually stop in front of the door and waste one of your moves in your turn. Snake can only make two moves a turn (can be more if you use a certain card but two is the default).

Graphics
The graphics are decent. It could have used more detail. snake doesn't change his facial expression the whole game I don't think. It does look cool when you're in firefights and you see the shots fired from a gun.

Soundtrack
The game has a pretty good soundtrack. The music is calm when you are using stealth and enemies are not aware of your presence but once you are seen the music picks up and of course once things calm down again the music goes back to soft again.

Controls
The controls are fairly simple once you learn the card system. circle is enter, x takes you back, use the direction button to select options. I really have no complaints about the controls.

Story
I did like the story in is game. It has the usual twists and turns of a Metal Gear game that keeps you playing. at least it did with me. With a variety of characters and twists the story is great

Overall
The only problem i had with the game really was the gameplay. The steep learning curve for the card system was just too much. I give this game an overall 6/10

I don't know about that card system. Nice review by the way.

Thanks. The card system is a pain. Each card costs so much to use and you can't go again until your cost zeros out. Until that your opponents all move which can get you into bad situations

Sounds like Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for the GBA. It was such a pain, I didn't even get past the first world.

That's pretty much what it's like. They did make a second metal gear Ac!d game and brought back the card system. That's my next review. They did make some slight improvements
