Homebuilt SOCOM PSP Headset

Don't want to fork over $20 for a Sony PSP headset?
Want to use your OWN headset?

NOTE: These are the EXACT items I used, but remember: all plugs and jacks are 3.5mm like you find on the PSP, NOT 2.5mm like you find on cell phones/handys.

You need one of these:
Hama 4-pin, 3.5mm plug to 3 RCA plug, 1 video, 2 audio
part number: 00043090

NOTE: The link to the picture above is of a 2.5mm plug, what's needed is the one with the 3.5mm plug! That's why I threw in the part number.

And one of these:
A simple y-splitter that allows one to connect two sets of 3.5mm headphones (like came with the PSP value pack) to one 3.5mm jack audio source. You know, so two people can listen to one iPod, Walkman, PSP, etc. You can find one of these just about anywhere.

Now, what I did was cut the 3.5mm plug off the Y-adapter headphone "splitter" (the second picture) and cut the RCA plugs off the first picture. Then just spliced one 3.5mm jack onto the two "audio" cables that used to have RCA plugs on them. Then spliced the other 3.5mm jack into the one audio cable that used to have the yellow "video" plug on it. Make sure you use good electrical tape wrapped tightly around all the splices...would be better to solder the connections yourself and wrap it with heat-shrink non-conducting tape.
BAM! It worked!

can't say that i quite follow. i mean, i've got a basic idea but i guess it's cause i'm a little drowsy and hopped up on pain killers for my sore throat. sounds like a good idea tho cause i have all that crap laying around here. basically is it saying the mic/speaker plug is the same plug? hopefully i'll understand more tomorrow.

Dude your dumb.

You can leave your headset and splitter intact by doing it like this:

Cut the 2 audio cable's ( red/white ) from the audo video cable and make 2 3,5 mm plugs on them. Plug them in the splitter.

Use a jack to jack cable and plug the splitter in one jack and the audio cable from your headset into the other side of the cable in the jack.

Cut the yellow videocable and connect the a jack. Plug the 3,5 mm from your mic of your headset in that one.

This way you can leave the headset and the splitter intact. And you only need to cut the wires of the audio video cable.

There will be a How to Next week on this website made by badg0r
