-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
so, now we have covered the firmwares of the psp, we will move on to installing homebrew on 1.5

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
to install homebrew, first you need to download some. for this guide, i will use daedlus r7. open the
daedlus folder you have downloaded and there will be 2 folders, daedlus and daedlus% . you must copy
both these files to your memory stick.

say X is you psp disk letter, the 2 folders will go into

x:/psp/game.

now it has finished copying to the memorystick, go on your psp and go to game, and go to memory stick.
choose daedlus, and there you go, you are playing homebrew.

homebrew is best played on 1.5 firmware. you cannot play homebrew on 1.51 , 1.52 , 2.7, 2.71 or 2.8.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ok, so that is how you install homebrew. now we will go through video.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

video is a tough thing to install, because first you need to make some new folders. in the root of your memory stick,
create a new folder. call it "MP_ROOT" (without the quotation marks) inside that folder, create a folder, called
"100MNV01" (without the quotation marks). now use pspvideo9 to convret and put them on the psp.
to do this, use psp video 9 avalable for free download at www.pspvideo9.com.
to use pspvideo9, follow the tutorial on this page : http://www.pspvideo9.com/started.html.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

so now you can watch you videos. now we'll go through music.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
music is a very easy thing to install, and very simple. get the music file you wantm and copy it.
now, assuming X is your disk drive, paste the music track in

X:/PSP/MUSIC.

now navigate to music on your psp and your music track will be there. if it is corrupted, the chance
is that your firmware wont support this music type. this is easily solved (if your on 1.5) by installing the psp media player,
which can be found here : http://files.psphacks.net/details.php?file=35

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
now we will go through the internet browser, and how to use it.

When the menu is displayed, the title and address for the currently displayed Web page are displayed. You can also access various
features and settings from the menu bar. Press the triangle button to cycle between displaying and hiding the menu.

to go to a web page:

With the menu displayed, use the up button to select the address bar, and then press the X button. this will open a text entry box,
and this is where you can enter you web page.

using the tab's

You can open up to three Web pages at the same time and then select which of the active pages is displayed by switching tabs.

to veiw the tabs, press [] and usr R to switch tabs.

Displaying Flash stuff.

If you activate Enable Flash Player under System Settings, the PSP system will be able to display Flash content.
youtube and yourpsp.com are NOT supported yet. dont let youtube be a reason for you to upgrade!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

now we will learn about devhook, and how to use/install it

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Devhook is a popular homebrew which allows us to emulate other firmwares. the newest devhook (0.46) allows us
to emulate 2.71 while on 1.5. to start with devhook, go and get the ultimate installer, from here :
http://www.psp-hacks.com/2006/07/29/...ate-installer/

after you have gone through the steps of the ultimate installer, your psp has devhook ready. to use devhook to
emulate 2.71, apply these settings -

UMD SELECT: UMD Disc*****
UMD MOUNT:UMD DISC*****
UMD VERSION: no change
FIRMWARE: 2.71(MS hook)
CPU CLOCK: 222 Mhz
BOOT SELECT: Reboot XMB

*****you can change this to an iso file if you have any. to do this, apply these settings :

UMD SELECT: select your ISO
UMD MOUNT: ISO ANYUMD
UMD VERSION: no change
FIRMWARE: 2.71(MS hook)
CPU CLOCK: 222 Mhz
BOOT SELECT: Reboot XMB

then choose START and your good to go, and your psp will reboot with all the 2.71 features. dont worry, rebooting
your psp will return you to 1.5.

that is the main devhook stuff covered.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

now i will expliain how to customise your psp's flash0

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WARINIG! DOING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING FEATURES MAY BRICK YOUR PSP

to change the gameboot.

the gameboot is the screen that appers after you have loaded a umd or a homebrew app. you can change this, but at
your own risk. to change it, firs tou have to download a gameboot. get it from www.nextpsphacks.com or make your own.

now you have the gameboot, you gotta install it. first download he newest version of XFLASH, you can find this on google
by typing xflash.

Connect PSP to computer in usb mode, open X:/psp/game/xflash/xflash/Modified
Copy the gameboot.pmf from you computer to the PSP and overwrite Then close usb connection and start X-FLASH
Go to the change gameboot option and follow directions

to change the xbm menu names.

download flashmod from here: http://dl.qj.net/FlashMod-v2.0-Gamin.../776/catid/114

and there will be 2 folders. flashmod and menu editor. open flashmod folder and copy the contents to your psp. then open the
menuchanger folder. copy the topmenupligin.rco file to my documents and run the .exe file in the same folder. when using the
menueditor you must choose your file. select english, and then click the button with the "..." on it. locate the topmenuplu-
gin.rco that you put in my documents and modifiy it as you wish. then click patch file and copy the topmenuplugin.rco to the
root of your memorystick. now run the flashmod program from your psp xbm and choose "enable custom xbm menu names"

to change the background.

make 10 35x64 sized bitmap images . call them 01.bmp , 02.bmp. ect all the way to 12.bmp. put them in the root of your memory
stick and download pspersonalize. (i dont have the link for this, sorry ) run pspersonalize and then it does the rest.

to install custom firmware.

go to http://www.qj.net/index.php?pg=49&aid=58867 to download the custoe firmware and there is a VERY detailed readme included.

A decent guide, but some of it is copied and pasted from the 'Noob Guide' made by Birdman1.

OK, that's fine then. It's now a great guide, but a contents page would make it even better!
