Points: 8.25 Donate | | | Is DevHook going to die? With the release of the CF SE-B, we now have the ability to run ISO's, either uncompressed or CSO compressed; directly from the XMB. This, in my opinion, is possibly the BEST THING to ever come out of homebrew development, in my opinion.
The custom firmware, rather than emulating, actually runs the executable code in the ISO nativly, merely 'wrapping' the calls to the UMD drive back to the ISO. This is practically the same as what DevHook does, but by eliminating the part that emulates firmware, this could possibly be a 100% compatible solution to running your game backups.
If anyone has ever had a 'game cannot start' or other error running an ISO in SE-B, please post here. I would assume that 99.9% of the time games will work however.
So will DevHook die from this? Highly possible. I don't see the point running DevHook anymore, unless you are 'noid about flashing custom firmware. So unless DevHook is updated to support 2.8 emulation, we are much better off using SE-B to run our ISO's. Much more compatible, easier, and memory friendly.
Thought or comments anyone? Post away.
P.S. My software, titled ISO.PBP, which is used to make nice EBOOT's to load a specified ISO, is now officially dead. The software is finished, but i choose not to release it as it has now been superceeded.

I wouldn't rule out devhook entirely yet as there are still a number of tricks devhook can do that the current version (B) of 271SE cannot do: - Play dax files
- Play iso's, dax & cso's via USB from you PC
- Change the speed of the CPU (although you could poss do this with another application)
- Screen Shot / video capture
- Cheat pluggins
I am sure to have missed something from the list but you get the idea.
I am not saying that Devhook won't die, indeed I have upgraded to 271SE-B and love it but I still have devhook installed with Wedges great DLX mod. I suspect this is the 1st nail in the coffin for devhook, a couple more features and yes maybe
p.s. if your iso/pbp software can be used to make nice eboots then surely it still has a use for homebrew software
EDIT: just read about your software and i now realise this is used specifically for devhook iso's so I can see were you are coming from

Points: 8.25 Donate | | Erm.. well i think u are talking about the No-UMD option of being buggy and unstable.... (in SE-B'' anyway).... but i dunno about all these compatibility probs with ISO's in SE-B, i mean i only have about 15 ISO's, all clean rips not modified in anyway, and they all work fine...
In response to geowarrior's comment, although yes that was a while ago and things have changed, i thought i'd give an update to all those living under a rock .. erm.. a rock with now internet access i mean...
He mentioned things that were only available to DevHook and not SE-B at the time. Now, things have changed...
* Play dax files - No, SE-B still cannot....
* Play iso's, dax & cso's via USB from you PC - Ditto....
* Change the speed of the CPU (although you could poss do this with another application) - A PRX addon for SE-B'' has been released so u can overclock ur PSP in SE-B
* Screen Shot / video capture - Ditto.. ia PRX has been released to allow this in SE-B
* Cheat pluggins - Ditto again.... VCS and LCS cheatdevice, as well as that other one... CWCheat... now have versions that can be used in SE-B.
Well this thread is old, yes. But since hearing about iRShell SE comming out soon (i've been following the beta's of iRShell after 2.2 up until the announced 'death' of iRShell), im considering going back to 1.5 and DevHook... but i'm not sure yet. I do love autobooting into iRShell, and its even COOLER (haha) now that u can have a PMF intro video of a LARGE length when iRShell starts up.... XMB is so boring :P
I might just revive my ISO.PBP project... if iRShell SE gets released soon, and if DevHook is updated to.. say.. support 2.80, then ill DEFINATELY continue my project of the "PSP Modder'z" portal i started work on a while ago (PSP modding focussed website - requests for gameboots that i create, themes, and all types of PSP modding goodness... as well as the various projects/software that i have created
Hmmm....
