Here's a kinda beta of my guide -
Installing 2.71 SE-B
Now, I'm gonna make things as easy as possible for you, so we're gonna use auto-installers whenever we can. Thankfully, the most difficult stage of the installation has an auto installer, which is very handy. Get the auto-installer
here. It's a 50MB download, so it's gonna take time.
Anyway, once its downloaded, connect your PSP to your computer or put your MS into the reader, and run the .exe (It's virus free, from a trusted source and whatnot. I scanned it myself, with McAfee and AVG). Click Next, then Next again. You will now be presented with a list of choices of what to install. Select the second one down if you want Devhook, or the fourth if not. I don't really use Devhook myself, as SE has all of Devhook's features built-in, but if you want it, now is a good time to get it. So select your preference, and click Next.
Now you're presented with a box, asking you where your PSP's root is. Don't panic, this is easy. You know when you open your PSP in Windows Explorer to put stuff on it, and you have to say which drive it is? This is the same. So if your PSP is drive E:/ when it's plugged in, type that. If it's G:/, type that. Of course, get rid of the text first. Click Next, and it will install. Once it's done, disconnect your PSP, plug in your charger cable, and go to Game - Memory Stick, and run the installer. Follow the onscreen instructions. If you did it all right, it should update flawlessly. However, if it went wrong, it's not my fault, trust me.
Installing 2.71 SE-B'
You are now on 2.71 SE-B, but there's still two more steps to go till firmware nirvana. Download
this file, and open it. If you can't, install 7-Zip (do a search). In the archive, open the folder PSP, the GAME150, but not the next folder. Put this folder in the location PSP/GAME150 (if it doesn't exist make it) on your MS. Run the install file on your PSP, this is much shorter than the last step's installation. You might notice the next step looks like this one - that's because they're so familiar I copied and pasted.
Installing 2.71 SE-B"
You are now on 2.71 SE-B2, but there's still one more step to go till firmware nirvana. Download
this file (it's different to the one in the last step), and open it. In the archive, don't open any folders. Open your PSP's drive too, but don't open any folders. Drag and drop the two folders (PSP and dh) from the archive to your PSP's drive. If done correctly, a message should come up saying there's already a folder called PSP. Just click Yes to All. Now, on your PSP, run the SE-B3 (or SE-B") updater. This is about as quick as the last step.
Congratulations! You now have the perfect firmware! However, you might need to change a few settings to make the best use out of it as you can. Restart your PSP, but hold R as it's starting. You will get a blue screen - the recovery screen. Go to Configuration, and change your options to suit you. These are mine:
Skip SCE logo (enabled)
Hide corrupt icons (enabled)
Game folder homebrew (1.5 kernel)
Auto run program at... (disabled)
Use NO-UMD (enabled)
I highly recommend you to use those settings. Congrats! You have finished your quest for firmware nirvana!
