I am so tired of hearing people argue with me about the worth of the PSP, and about how much better the is.
So this thread is for everyone to give GOOD REASONS not to buy a PSP, and our responses to it! ***Please read at least one before commenting.***
For example: Why do you want emulators? It is nothing but old consoles...
True, we will probably never emulate a ps2 or xbox on the psp, but do not scoff at the power of the nes, snes, and gameboy series. We are currently able to fully play most nes, snes, gb, gbc, gba, gen, atari, wonder swan, TG 16, neogeo, and game gear games, and we are working on fully functioning N64 and PSx emulators as we speak.
If you do not see ANY joy in owning all of the Mario series, all DonkeyKong, and all pokemon and Zelda games on a hand held system with sound and a beautiful screen (All games owned by you in their original format of course), then I will give this to you.
But in my opinion, I will not go anywhere without my Klonoa Empire of Dreams. But all homebrew is good for is for emulators!
O.o heck no. I love my emulators, but they are not what impress my friends... My psp has a universal IR remote control program, can download information about the weather, is a SERVER when connected to a wifi point, can be used to control a computer (thank you vnc), allow me to edit my psp's font, background and colors, and allow me to do multiple things at the same time (thank you IRShell). My PSP can hold all my music, and even some backups of the ISO's that my psp can no longer play (I played it for so long the umd drive broke).
Mmm, homebrew. Don't even get me started on Atom and PSPool. OR wifi bomberman. O.o or any of the other dozen some odd programs... I heard about 2.71 SE, but I have 1.50. 2.71 SE sucks
Look, if you want to keep 1.50, go ahead. Your loss.
I personally love my webbrowser, rss feed, etc, along with 2.71 AND 1.50 homebrew.
Find me a program that I can not run on this firmware, one that would ACTUALLY make me feel bad for having it. I dare you.
God bless you Dark_Alex. I heard that if you upgrade to 3.00, you can emulate ps1 games!
As far as I can tell, this is true. But of course, Sony will never allow us to back up ps1 games we ALREADY own and play them... Licensing issues. SO, I will stick with homebrew for now, and give the geniuses here time to work. I bet we can come up with stuff FAR better than Sony would even dare to do... Imagine wifi playing of tekken 3... But the Nintendo DS is better!(Thanks SpongeFreak52)
Heh.
I am not going to pay for a console that requires three hands to play. How are you supposed to stencil, control the buttons and the pad? You can not. SO all game play must involve a combination of two of these... Also, although it is a neat effect for some games, the real selling game for the DS is nintendogs.
This is a value judgment, and up to you. Is it better?
{turns down the volume of the tv, plays some music while using the cheat device in GTA: VCS (You can get it for $19.99 btw}
From Gamer420: Why pay $200 for a PSP?
"Just to play a remake of GTA: Vice City for example. My response to that argument is so you can have it portable and play it anywhere on the go and not only that the graphics are better on the PSP then on PS1 or PS2."
Good point Gamer240, also do not underestimate the joy of game sharing one psp game with 8 people for multiplayer! THANK YOU Sony for that feature.
From Gun335: The ps2's graphics are slightly better.
The ps2 is also slightly heaver. Larger. Requires a TV to use, along with cables and a power outlet. (Thanks Gun335 for that point)
Anywho, if anyone else has heard arguments against the psp, please post them below with your response, so that all of us may be prepared to put them in their places! Thanks guys/gals.

You have some nice points, but honestly, I think my PSP kicks ass. Plus, this is a PSP forum so I don't know how many people can agree with you...

And as for the 1.50 vs 2.71 SE, I am waiting until 2.71 can do absolutely everything that 1.50 can. Not just 90%. Not that I am slamming it. I think that is a great concept and when I think of custom firmware, I think of that. It's wierd though, a couple of months ago they said that 2.71 couldn't be cracked and every 2.71 user was begging to go to 1.50. Now it's the opposite way around. |

Viva la PSP....

Points: 0.00 Donate | | | Here is another arguement I have heard. why not to get a PSP? Sony is making mostly all the past games for playstation / 2 for the PSP just to make up lost revenue from the past console(s). So why pay $200 for a PSP? Just to play a remake of GTA: Vice City for example. My response to that arguement is so you can have it portable and play it anywhere on the go and not only that the graphics are better on the PSP then on PS1 or PS2.
But I still love my PSP. Every1 can have their own opinion. If you like PSP that's fine and cool. And if you dislike it, then that is fine and cool also.
