Your PSP Autobiography

Post your PSP's Autobiography. Why did you buy a PSP, how did you get interested in homebrew? How did you find PSP3d?

Mine:

I first wanted a PSP when I saw that there was going to be a GTA on it. Instantly I knew I wanted one.

On Christmas of 2005, I received my PSP with a copy of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. After taking my brand new 1.50 PSP out of the box, I saw Network Update and thought: "People must be hacking the PSP. I don't want a virus, this must protect me." Can you say Doh! Instantly my PSP was upgraded to 2.01.

On my birthday, January 8th, I had finally beaten GTA and was looking for some more games for the PSP that looked interesting. Some how I stumbled onto PSP-Hacks. They were talking about Tetris on the PSP! But it was a homebrew game. At the time, I did not know the meaning of homebrew. I downloaded PSPTris and put it in my Game folder. Went to start it up and got a "Game could not be started" error. For about a week I couldn't get the damn thing to work so I gave up. Around the middle of January I tried again and learned of the TIFF exploit. Not realizing that I have 2.01 and not 2.00 I tried it out. Nothing. After a sleepless night, I made a brilliant discovery: I HAD 2.01! A little after that I learned of eLoader. I tried it out with my first, and most favorite, homebrew: SNES9x! Success! Super Metroid and Shadowrun hogged up most of the space on my 32MB memory stick. Soon after I learned of Homers Rin. Since my Gameboy Color and my Gameboy Advanced crapped out of me, I could not plat GBC games any more. Soon Pokemon Silver and Dragon Warrior Monsters joined the greatness. At this time I was visiting PSP-Hacks and Fanjita's Palace daily.

In early January of 2006/ late December 2005 I stumbled on this site called PSP3d. I saw that they had frequent news posts so I visited them daily. I also started browsing the forums. I also discovered this amazing show called PSP Hacking 101. I March, I discovered Qj. I visited them daily also.

In May of 2006 I started getting real antsy about a 2.01 downgrader coming out. I got so desperate that I would have switched PSPs with some one with a 1.50. More and more people learned of what I could do with my PSP. Suddenly I was cooler than before. Yes, I was a cool guy in high school, but not like football player cool. I was just in class with them because I to can not read. But I was a band nerd (Masuk Snare Line '06, Masuk Jazz Ensemble '06 Trombone 2!).

In June, I was all set to graduate high school. During one of my finals I was playing the Sega Genesis emulator while wondering if I will ever be able to enjoy the "Golden Firmware." Graduation came and went and I got lot's of money for screwing around for 12 years and just barely getting by in a public school . So I bought a 512 MB stick. That very night I logged onto PSP3d and learned that the 2.5/2.6 downgrader had been released by some no name coder called Dark_AleX.

After many hours of reading and watching videos, I was ready to downgrade my PSP. I upgraded to 2.50 and I took the plunge. Unsuccessful. My PSP looked like a 1.50, but said it was a 2.01. To this day I can not explain that one. I also could not run any homebrew. I upgraded to 2.6 and tried again. SUCCESS!!! I had finally gotten a 1.50 PSP! Suddenly I was cool (along with many others ).

I posted every once and a while here at PSP3d, but I mostly posted over at Qj. I learned how bitter 13 year olds can be who enjoy flaming and hiding behind a computer screen. But I took the abuse.

In July I posted more at PSP3d and less at Qj.

In August the 2.71 downgrader was released by Dark_AleX and I realized, this wasn't fun anymore. Sure I was happy for every one who got 1.50s, but this major news didn't affect me. So I faded into the background. My PSP collected dust for a month. As I began college, I realized something: having nothing to do at school really sucks. So I started bringing my computer to school, I commute to school. Bored between classes, I began coming back here. I learned that that no name Dark_AleX had released a new kind of custom firmware. Custom firmware that ran on 2.71. I thought it was the dumbest idea I had ever heard. It couldn't do everything a 1.5 could and that's all that mattered to me. Plus I had waited so long for a 1.5 and to throw it all away like that?

Some time passed and Booster got in trouble with $ony. When the dust had settled, he released Devhook with 2.80 support. The PSP scene went wild! Booster was safe and we could emulate 2.80! I, being the n00b that I was, could not figure out how to install this new Devhook. I thought that it was because I was on 1.50, so I upgraded to 2.71 SE-B. Then it worked. I can not explain that one either. Luck I guess.

As time passed $ony released more and more firmwares and Dark_AleX cracked them all. Oh yeah and Team C+D too. And maybe Fanjita, I don't remember. Soon 3.00 came out and soon after we had 3.00 OE firmware. I was afraid of bricking so I stayed at 2.71 SE-C.

More time passed and 3.03 OE firmwares came available. 3.03 OE-C is where I am now and probably will be for a while. I am still hacking my PSP and using SNES9x . I also still post here at PSP3d (dur!) and occasionally over at Qj, but not often. I have gotten many of my friends into PSP hacking and even one of my college professors. I have not made any major contributions to the scene as a whole, but I do post here and that's all you guys need .

Well I saw the PSP was coming out, looked impressive, had the money, brought it (september 1st, day it came out). Upgraded from 1.50 to 2.00, about a month later a heard about home brew, the 2.00 downgradeder had just come out, I used it with no idea, bricked it (loops the BSOD). Saved up the money again got a brand new 1.50 and upgraded and downgraded several times between 2.00 and 1.50, this time knowing more than I did before. Finally I got bored with homebrew and thought the LCfree tv sounded cool, upgraded to 2.71 regreted it desperatly finally downgrader came out, used it, and lived happliy ever after.

Oh and PSP3D was the place I first found out about homebrew.

Exclamation My Auto-biography - By Daniwul

I had always been looking at practicality when it came to buying things, so I told myself when the PSP came out, that it was a waste of money and that it was a novelty. But a year later I saw my friends playing on them, and it awed me, as the graphics were so much better than the PS2 I currently owned. So I bought one the following day, along with GTA:LCS, Midnight Club 3 and Twisted Metal: Head On.

The firmware it was was 1.52. I wanted to play more games for a cheaper price, so I went to a shop that told me that you could play games on the memory-stick, but you needed firmware version 1.50. At the time I had no idea it was illegal, so I asked, how do I downgrade from 1.52. The shop keeper told me it was impossible at the time, so I went home and researched how to downgrade the psp. I finally figured it out and now I had a 1.50. So I browsed the net for almost an hour and gathered alot of what was called 'homebrew'. So I loaded all that on and it worked perfectly. I now I had the idea that Sony was denying the PSP of its true capabilities.

I used PSP-Hacks for a while to use for information, but then I stumbled across something better, it was PSP3D! So I signed up for it, but never really contributed to the community, but at near the end of 2006, I started to communicate and learn how to program small things and just feel like I was in a second family. And that is the story of how I escaped from the clutches of the 'Sony Update'.

But I became to cocky with my skills, I was editing my flash0 when I accidentally deleted it ALL! I was freaking out, but had a plan, I would go to the folder of my flash0 back-up, stored on my PC. But it was gone; my cheap-ass laptop failed me. I-was-done-for. Luckily I bought a new silver-metallic Japanese PSP and downgraded it, installed Dark-Alex custom firmware, modified the XMB and converted it to a USA buttons. Everything was alright in the end

And that is my Auto-biography!

I bought a PSP summer of.. 2006? I think. With birthday money.
I only had one game for a while.. Untold Legends. Then I eventually got more, now I'm at 9 plus a UMD DVD.
Firmware History:
1.5 > 2.0 > 2.5 > 2.6 > 2.71 > 1.5 > 2.71 SE > 3.02 OE > 3.03 OE > 3.10 OE

I don't really remember exactly mine but I know I got mine the summer after it came out. My first game was Spiderman 2 (It was a gift). Anyway I found PSP3D my senior year at school while messing around online one day. i signed up and been coming here since. It was because of this site I learned about homebrew. i always missed my chance to play homebrew because i always upgraded my PSP until the the 3.03 downgrader was made and I said "I'm going to try this," now I'm on 3.10 OE A' and loving it. Homebrew rules!!

i saw the psp commercial and wanted one more than i ever wanted anything before

i had already been using homebrew on computer for a while and new there was homebrew for psp, didnt know about firmware and all that stuff.

i ended up getting it for my birthday(22nd, christmas only 3 days away) in 2005.
it was 1.51.
i opened it with gta liberty city stories and immediately updated to 2.00 to play it
i saw network update and it was 2.60 and i only had a 32mb mem stick so i thought it would install the firmware to the memory stick, not the psp. so i waited until i got my 128mb for christmas.
i didnt get around to updating for about a month.
after i updated i finnaly got around to learning about homebrew, it had always been on my mind, just never had the time.
so i downloaded a snes emulator and it kept saying cannot b started.
i realised my mistake, updating to 2.60.
i was cursed with 2.60

i had begun to use qj.net and from their forums learned about psp3d.com and how its full of fake downgraders.
i knew that if psp3d had some theyu wouldnt work, but i was willing to try anything lol
i think shortly after i joined here fanjita released the beta gta eloader.
for months i wanted 1.50 so bad and hated loading gta every time a homebrew froze.
wen 2.70 came out i wanted to run the update without the power chord plugged in(wen i ran gta update it made me plug in ac adapter before continuing)
the thing never came up and it upgraded..i hated myself for it
then the 2.60 kernel exploit came out
exactly a week after i updated
wen 2.71 came out i updated to it cuz no one on this site beleived me about it.
there were ruymors of a working 2.70 homebrew not working on 2.71 the very next day.
my internet got shut off and i had to goto internet cafes to use internet.
my dad was with me and i wanted to try the new demo wich required 2.80
my dad talked me into updating
the next day the 2.71 downgrader and homebrew came out
i never updated past 2.80 i just let the rest of the updates come out
then i called up my friend and traded for his 2.60 and downgraded
turns out his screen had a huge crack and the analog didnt work
i traded it for his bros 2.60 and downgreaded that it was in mint condition
after the 2.80 downgrader i traded back for my original psp and then started doin custom firmwares..eh im bored pce
