Simple -
  1. Turn your PSP off and, while holding R, turn it on again.
  2. Enter the menu 'Registry hacks'.
  3. Toggle the option 'Button assign' to 'currently X is enter'.
  4. Go on Back, then Exit.
That should work fine.

I prefer it as O select. It feel more comfortable. But what ever makes you happy I guess.

And the Japanese use a circle instead of a tick (I think).

A circle instead of a tick? I don't get it.

Any way in most PS1 and 2 games I have played X was select and Triangle was cancel. And some times O was cancel.

You know in tests, you get a tick if you answered correctly and a cross if you answered wrongly? The Japanese have a circle instead of a tick if you're right, and the same cross if you're wrong. AFAIK, anyway.
