Latest firmware on my 1.51 (i have flashed the memory with custom 3.02/3?)

Hi.everyone,i am new here, this site looks cool and seems friendly!
I have a 1.51 (original) psp and i have flashed the memory to 3.02/3 from what i can remember. Now obviously i would like the latest firmware, but am not sure how i can change it as i am a noob.Do i have to re-flash!? my psp to the latest custom firmware or can i put something on my memory stick(like i used to do with devhook,i feel alot safer doing it this way!).So basically i want to change/ upgrade my flashed custom firmware on my original 1.51 psp to the latest.By the way i run devhook to play some things,is this necessary with custom? Thanks.

Custom Firmware

Hey, Welcome to psp3d I have spent a bit of time away from the scene myself, but I think your best bet is to downgrade to 1.5, upgrade to custom firmware 3.40 OE-A, then upgrade to 3.52 M33-3, then from there upgrade to 3.80 M33-2, which is the latest firmware. You dont need DevHook to play homebrew when you have custom firmware.

The following page will tell you all you need to know:

Thanks for youre reply,so my psp is now 3.03 OE-A?Even if its flashed custom firmware and still technically a 1.51?Do i really have to downgrade it if it is still a 1.51?Damn,wish i hadnt bother flashing it now.Anyone with any other suggestions apart from downgrading then upgrading etc?Thanks.....

OK, it seems like you're very confused. Please do the following -
  1. Take out your PSP's battery and and UMD in the drive.
  2. Put the battery back in.
  3. Turn on your PSP.
  4. Go to Settings - System Settings - System Information.

If 3.03 OE-A is listed here, then you've flashed your PSP to 3.03 OE-A and all traces of 1.51 have been wiped from your system. 1.51 is gone, it is no longer your firmware. Your PSP doesn't know it was ever 1.51. You can just forget that 1.51 was on your system; it makes no difference now. 1.51 has been completely replaced by 3.03 OE-A.

What I'd do now, if I were you, is upgrade to 3.80 M33. This takes a while, but it brings great benefits. To get to 3.80 M33, you first need to upgrade from 3.03 OE-A to 3.52 M33, then to 3.52 M33-4, then finally to 3.80 M33, with an optional upgrade to 3.80 M33-2..

By 'the benefits of 1.51', I assume you mean the homebrew benefits of 1.50. But yes, 3.80 M33 offers you the benefits of the latest firmware plus the homebrew benefits of 1.50. And yes, you use the 3.52 M33 update first, the the 3.52 M33-4 update, then the 3.80 M33 package. (They're all available from Dark-AleX - PSP Developer, but you'll also need the 1.50, 3.52 and 3.80 official updates - obtainable from PSP Hacks · Hacks, PSP Downloads, Cracks, Mods, Homebrew, Utilities · Hack Sony PlayStation Portable.)

totally confused now!

Jeez, getting the latest custom firmware sounds a nightmare for someone like me to be able to do!I was hoping that i could just upgrade in "one go".Now i need official updates aswell!Would it be possible for someone to just list the steps for me to get to the latest firmware.Or shall i just follow Duggans link and i can do it that way?Is there a guide on here for me to be able to update?Or even better is there a way of me updating to a NEWER firmware than mine(3.03) with less trouble/hassle.Many thanks for youre very welcome help..

Is it not just possible for me to upgrade my psp using original umd games(to cut out some of this ugrading/downgrading hassle?).Obviously i cant downgrade my custom 3.03,but surely i can do the upgrades/some of the upgrades using the games.Even if it is only the first one?Regards,John..
