im helping out a friend who bought his PSP recently from China (the X and O buttons are switched too)

i want to upgrade it from a 2.01 to a 2.6, and then help him downgrade it

problem is, im not sure which EBOOT to use on the PSP

if i use an american update on the PSP, would it result in a brick?

EDIT: btw, the inside of the UMD slot says 1C1003 (where it would normally be blank or say TA-082)

sorry but if it says "IC1003" on the right of the inside of the umd drive then it is a TA-082 and it is not compatiable with the downgrade and will probably brick!!!

o sorry i never saw that part. yea you do have a ta-082 so you can not downgrade because its just not safe

It has hardware protection so it cannot be at any firmware below 2.50 without a TA-092 modchip - the UP doesn't work with them.

ok....

when i turn the PSP around so its right side up, those letters (ICI003) are upside down on the right side

also, on the left, i can see some letters but cant make them out since theyre half covered by the metal

so, does this mean the PSP is a TA-082 model and cant be downgraded?

EDIT: but i can still safely upgrade it to 2.6 (using the US EBOOT) without any problems right? and still use eLOADER?

well the ICI003 means that its a TA-082

Yes you could still update to 2.6 and use the eloader without any problems.
