All over the web, I see people using rapidshare, yousendit, mailbigfile, sexuploader, and other websites to upload and share their files.
Common annoyances that these guys have?
1. Queues. For uploading AND downloading.
2. Single uploads only. Single Downloads Only.
3. No Download Managers.
4. Limited time to download.
5. Limited size.
To help out fellow computer users, I have decided to make a quick note on good sites for uploading, hosting, etc, for the average joe.
Step A. Understanding.
First of all, there are 3 main types of uploads the average user needs and/or wants.
1. Download Uploads ~ The user must navigate to the website and download manually. Used for zip, tar, 7z, and some exe and other large files.
2. Direct Uploads ~ The user just clicks, or it shows on the page by default. Used for jpg, bmp, wav, etc... Music, videos and pictures basically. Sometimes text.
3. Email/Personal Uploads ~ Uploads that you do not intend for multiple people, but for you and one or two friends.
Step B. Finding.
The size of the file you need to upload can be a problem.
The three sites below allow you to upload a file and send a link to that file to any email you choose. ^_^ Neat.
100 MB:
YouSendIt
300 MB:
FileFactory
512 MB:
MailBigFile
Those sites are made for single uploads sent to individuals, not for mass downloads like for PSP3d.com.
These sites allow you to upload files, and share the links with anyone you want!
25 MB, 50 MB with free account:
FileUper ~ Upload any file (within size limits). Suggested by Cody L.
100 MB:
RapidShare ~ Not bad. Not my favorite. I think they use queues.
2 GB+?:
MediaFire ~ I LOVE these guys! You get unlimited uploads, unlimited downloads, no queues or lines, multiple uploads and downloads at the SAME TIME, and they allow download managers! If you sign up for an account, they even keep track of all your uploads so you can share them again (I used this when I uploaded my PSP 2.82 demos altered to work on 2.80). I have successfully uploaded several files over a GB in size, and I can STILL share them with people. Oh, and they will email links to people you need to. Neat.
Step C. Other Items
But what if you want to upload pictures, videos, or music?
For Pictures:
1.5 MB:
ImageShack ~ A classic... they do well.
1024 x 768 Pixels:
PhotoBucket ~ I use these guys. Easy to do mass uploads at a time... They also allow video uploads now (five minutes or less), image size of 1024 x 768 Pixels. Also can upload from camera phones and email addresses.
For Videos:
5 min:
PhotoBucket
100 MB or 10 min:
YouTube ~ Do I really need to describe this?
100 MB+ (if more than 100 MB, you can download an uploader):
Google Video ~ Easy to use, I am not sure if there is a video length restriction. You can also make your upload private, just for you and who you choose. ^_^ Just don't steal anything.
For Music:
3 songs:
AudioStreet ~ This is for actual artists, you get band page and more. More than 3 if you buy an account.
200 MB:
GarageBand ~ Again for actual artists, this allows individual pages for each song, searchable by Google. Neat.
For everyone else wanting to host music?
20 MB:
supload ~ But no copywritten music please.
25 MB, 50 MB with free account:
FileUper ~ Suggested by Cody L., I like this option for hosted music...

Anywho, that concludes my little tutorial for hosting files. If you feel that I left out the best site ever, or if there is something you want to add, let me know and I will add it to the list.
Hopefully this will allow us to have faster, less stressful downloads of future PSP releases!
