Help with UMD its freezes on startup

I tried to search for the answer but couldn't find it...

Anyway, my problem is my Ghost in the Shell region 3 (the umd) game freezes immediately after the Sony screen while the game is loading. The power light flashes and then the psp just turns off. I'm not sure if the umd is defective or if its some other problem. It does the same thing with or without the memory stick inside the psp. I don't know anyone else who has a psp so I haven't tested it on another psp. I'm using firmware 2.71 SE-A. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My PSP came with 2.50. Worst case scenario I would put it back to 2.50, but I doubt that's going to happen. I'll probably just chuck the game. Has anyone ever had this type of problem before? I don't know if the UMD is defective... What's the difference between the Asia and Japan game UMD's anyway?
