Topmenu_plugin.rco No Text Updater Bug

I have a 3.03 OE-C PSP with custom icons. I know that it is a modded topmenu_plugin.rco from 2.5 becuase the 2.6+ topmenu_plugin.rco have not been decrypted yet. This is causing a problem when you click on the update from the umd. The text is missing. I know that someone is going to say you don't even need to update and it dose not matter but I would like to fix or replace the missing text in the topmenu_plugin.rco with a HEX editor. Can someone tell me how or have a decrypted topmenu_plugin.rco for 3.00+ (Doubt you will) to fix this? Thanks.

Here is what happens. (Sorry about the quality. On my phone.):

Yeah, no problem.

Step one, grab a copy of your topmenu_plugin.rco.
Quote:
A. Boot your psp into the recovery menu (Hold R)
B. Go to Advance, then turn on FLASH0 to USB. Do not move or delete anything.
c. Go to flash0:/vsh/resource, and copy (DON'T MOVE) topmenu_plugin.rco to your hard drive.
Step two, grab a HexEditor, I like this one: XVI32

Step three: Search through the binary until you see ENGLISH warnings. If you see Japanese or French, you have gone too far. All English text in topmenu_plugin.rco is close together.

Step four: alter this file. But warning: If you delete or insert data, your topmenu_plugin.rco will be corrupt, and your psp will semi brick. If it does, use a copy of the original, and replace the one you made.

The secret is to REPLACE characters. For example, it may say:
N e t w o r k _ U p d a t e
And you decide to change it to:
_ _ _ D i s a b l e d _ _ _
I replaced all unused with spaces, so it looks smaller.

If you want MORE room, the only trick I can tell you is to change your default language to a different one, like French, and then altering theirs. Other languages may have words reserved longer than English (maybe shorter too).

Good luck!

Question RE:

What your saying I have done it before but my problem is that I would need to add code but that would cause a semibrick. I have a comparison of the decrypted 2.5 and modded 3.03 in the attachment. The message that is not coming up is incomplete in the HEX and only half of it is actually there but for some reason the PSP would not display any of it. Is there a way to make it display, I could always shorten it up just it but it wouldn't display on the PSP.

I don't know what that means. I am going to assume you meant that you already tried this.

"I would need to add code but that would cause a semibrick."

Why would you need to add code?

Look, if you need a copy of the files from FLASH0 for 3.03, you can make them yourself. Do this to get a clean copy of 3.03's topmenu_plugin.rco to work with.

Go here to get the firmware extractor by NOObz!

Go here to get firmware 3.03 eboot upgrade to extract data from.

Go here to get the tools to extract DATA.PSAR from the update above.

Yeah I have tried this before and the PSP for some reason wont recognize even some of words I put. I did follow your advise from both posts just that the decrypted topmenu_plugin.rco from the 3.00 PSAR was in a form that I can't read. It is a bunch of gibberish thats why I have to use the modded 2.5 topmenu_plugin.rco. Thanks for your help but I guess I probably just have to wait for a fix to this problem. I'll post something if I figure a way out.
