downgrading with "fake" memory sticks

I'm trying to downgrade my psp from 2.71 to 1.50 via this guide :
2.71 Downgrade Guide - eXophase Forums

and it mensions (Donot use fake memory cards for OE installs - eXophase Forums) "fake" memory stick that may increase chances of bricking.

So I was wondering if it still is an issue or if the problem has been resolved.

Should I get a new Memory stick just for the downgrade?

thanks

I would get a new memory stick any way. Fake ones tend to suck.

I attempted to create the DAXR for 3.30 OE the other day, and it never matched the SHA1, as soon as i used my 512 stick which is my good stick, it created it fine. (i didnt have my 512 stick on me so i figured i'd try it with my dodgy 4 gig stick)

So from my experience i'd suggest you get a 512 stick for upgrading you can also use it as your recovery stick since you have pleanty of space left on it.

im getting sick of my 4 gig stick right now.. gotta copy things over multiple times cause they get corrupt constantly while copying (gg ebay)

But how do I know if I will buy a "real" memory stick?,

the one I have right now is a 4G from sandisk and it says magicgate on it and had a PSP tag on the box.

I'm very confused

HUH? SanDisk makes TRUE Memory sticks! And MagicGate is probably where it enters since every Memory Stick has the magicgate word on it. You sure the MS is fake?

point 1 fake memstick can be fine no errors, corruption, are high speed etc but some fakes can have extremely slow speeds high corruption chances and chances of errors.

to check for a "genuine" magicgate memstick which has better read and write ability on you psp highlight the memstick icon and press triangle then select information it will give you the capacitity the free space and it will state magicgate --- if it says supported its genuine, if it states unknown it is a fake.

p.s. as for resolving the issue its the memory's fault in the memory stick and can't be fixed unless you replace the corrupting the data which could be the memory or the controller chip either way the easiest way is to get a genuine memstick.

I wouldn't buy a new memory stick just for the downgrade at least not w/out checkin here to see if your memory stick is fake. Link here:[GUIDE]How to tell a fake Sony Memory Stick from a real one I bought my 1GB ScanDisk memory stick a while ago on ebay and got for like 30-60% below the selling price and mine is still goin good and works fine. I used also for to downgrade my 2.5 to 1.5 FW.

Easy way to make sure you have a real MS: Buy it from Frys or Circuit City or where ever.
