3.40 OE-A Custom Firmware Installation Guide

Your psp will need to be at Firmware 1.5 or it must have any 2.71 SE or 3.XX OE custom firmware installed.

This will work on all types of motherboard, including TA-082

If your not on 1.5, see if you can downgrade by checking HERE

It's best to use a memory stick larger than 32MB and is advised there is no UMD in the drive.

3.40 OE-A Installation Guide

First, download these files >

3.40 Open Edition Revision A
3.40 Firmware Update (US)
1.50 EBOOT

Next, to be on the safe side, backup any files you need from your memory stick and format it using the psp. It's possible to do this without formatting the stick, but it's up to you.

Then, make sure your battery is at least 75% charged (ideally 90%)

Extract 340_oea using Winrar.

Then in the 340oe_a folder on your computer, copy the oeupdmaker and oeupdmaker% folders like this >

Then, go into USB mode on your psp and navigate to ms0:\PSP\GAME (2.71 SE/3.XX OE users, go to PSP\GAME150)

Paste the oeupdmaker and oeupdmaker% folders in here, like this >

Back on your PC, extract the 3.40 Firmware Update (US) with Winrar and go into the folder. There will be a file called EBOOT.PBP

Rename this file to 340.PBP, like this >

Extract the 1.50 EBOOT with Winrar and go into the folder. There will be another file called EBOOT.PBP.

Rename this file to 150.PBP like this >

You then need to copy the 340.PBP & 150.PBP files and paste them onto your psp in ms0:\PSP\GAME\oeupdmaker, or if you are using 2.71 SE/3.XX OE ms0:\PSP\GAME150\oeupdmaker

It should look like this >

Then, exit USB mode and on your psp go to the GAME menu then MEMORY STICK.

You should see an icon that says 3.40 OE-A Update Maker

Select this and the screen will turn black and writing will appear. This will create a DATA.DXAR which is needed to update to 3.40 OE-A.

Once this is done, it should go back to the psp main menu.

On your PC again, go to the 340oe_a folder and copy 340oeflasher & 340oeflasher% like this >

go into USB mode again and paste these folders in ms0:\PSP\GAME. If you are on 2.71 SE/3.XX OE then paste them in ms0:\PSP\GAME150.

It should look something like this >

Then on your psp, go back to the oeupdmaker folder and you will see the DATA.DXAR file you just created

copy or cut DATA.DXAR and paste it in 340oeflasher, like this >

Exit USB. Check that your battery is charged and the AC adapter is plugged in.

Navigate to GAME then MEMORY STICK on your psp and you should see a red icon that says 3.40 OE-A Firmware Install

Select this and it will begin to run the update. Please be patient and DO NOT turn off the psp, remove the memory card or battery while the update takes place.

Once complete it will prompt you to manually restart the psp. Hold the power switch up until the green light goes off, then turn it back on.

You have successfully updated to 3.40 OE-A !

You can now delete all the files off your psp or format the memory stick

ISO's/CSO's go in ms0:\ISO

1.5 Homebrew goes in ms0:\PSP\GAME150

PSX eboots go in ms0:\PSP\GAME

Credit goes to Dark_Alex for the custom firmware and psp-hacks for hosting the files.

I, nor PSP3D.com accept any responsibility for any damage caused to your psp.

Good tutorial, It's very descriptive and is great for n00bs. However, there is a much easier process, the 'Easy Installer'; in my opinion, that would be better, as it eliminates half of the process of your method. The easy installer is more time saving, and is somewhat safer for newbies...

Consider using this method.

ummm why does your second link say USA version and you lose compatibility
to all homebrew? Either its me or I think you made a big mistake, I'm not
gonna upgrade if that is the official firmware from Sony.

That means distributing the DATA.DXAR, which has the DATA.PSAR of official Sony updates in it, and those become single-user once they're extracted. I'm not saying that method doesn't work, I'm saying it's illegal.

That is the official Sony update, but you need to have it on your Memory Stick to upgrade, as it needs to use files from the official update. But just make sure not to put that file in PSP/GAME/UPDATE, as that will make it show up in the menu, making you upgrade to 3.40 instead of 3.40 OE if you select that icon.
