Question Needing Help With 2.71
I have just purchased a second hand (barley used) PSP with 2.71 as the firmware.


Having that firmware already loaded on the PSP, what are my options. I want to be able to play homebrew games and watch DIVX movies i grab off the internet.

Questions:

1. If something happens is there a recovery process to put my PSP back to its default state? Or will it turn into a brick if hacking it goes wrong?

2. Does the version of firmware you have (hacked or not) determine what games you play, as in, if i go custom firmware to play homebrew will i still be able to play a new game that is released by simply buying it. I want my cake and eat it to.

3. What is the best known process for getting me to a custom firmware so i can achieve my goals.

1. There is a recovery mode if you upgrade to a custom firmware and screw up your PSP hacking.

2. A custom firmware is part of Sony's regular firmware so you can play games that require a certain firmware as long as you have the custom version of the firmware that's high enough like 3.40 oe.

3. Look up the Lumines or Grand Theft auto Liberty city stories downgrader and get back to us. You need either of those two games to downgrade to 1.5 and then upgrade to a custom firmware

Yes but what update does it have when you put the UMD into the PSP because I need to make sure you don't have a patched version. If it has 2.0 it's not patched

ahh sorry for my ignorance. When i pop in GTA, below the UMD selection it says PSP Update ver 2.60.

is this bad?

Yeah that's bad. It's patched so you can't downgrade with it.
