Help with upgrading custom firmware

Hello all,

Some may remember me from a year ago, well I'm back.
I have forgotten practically everything now and would like to bring my PSP back to the 21st century.

It has 3.40* custom firmware, and was hoping someone would recommend me a tutorial to use for upgrading the firmware. I'd like the latest firmware that enables homebrew.

Please let me know if you need any information regarding my system or any such related information.

Much appreciated,
Daniwul

Well we now have 5.00 M33, M33 firmware is made by Dark_AleX. In order to upgrade to the newer firmwares, you will need to upgrade to 3.52 M33 and then 3.52 M33-4. From there you can go on anywhere. Even now, Dark_AleX has found a way to distribute upgrades through Network Update on his custom firmwares. It's pretty sweet.

If you need any other information, you know where to go. And welcome back to PSP3D!

Thanks mate, great to see you're still here.

Three questions...

- Can I upgrade to 3.52 M33 straight from 3.40*? Or do I have to downgrade to 1.50 first?

- Can you direct me to some good homebrew download websites?

- Once I've updated to his latest firmware, how can I download future ones straight to my PSP via Network update, unless the firmware already enables that.

After an hour of tinkering and exploring I have succesfully updated my PSP to 5.00 M33-4.

My only question that remains is that for future updates, what do I have to do to download the Dark_Alex M33 ones via Network Update on the XMB of the PSP?

Can I do it already, since the coding is already in the firmware?

Or do I have to download an add-on?

It's coded right into the firmware.

Ok, when I posted "After an hour of tinkering and exploring I have succesfully updated my PSP to 5.00 M33-4" that was when the firmware was in the process of upgrading, but failed.

I'm stuck with 3.52 M33-4 and don't know how to upgrade to 5.00 M33-4.

I've followed the read-me word for word, but to no success.

What should I do?

That's odd. I would try it again and make sure that everything is in the correct spot on your memory stick. Also check what kernel you have your PSP set on. I'm pretty sure that you need it to be set on the 3.40 kernel.

Wow, well it was set on 1.50 kernal, I'll give it a go, thanks.

Stupid developers didn't specify that. Guess they think it'll occur to everyone.

Thanks for the help dq, you are the man.

EDIT:

Thank you dq9, I've upgraded my PSP to 5.00 M33-4, all thanks to your guidance.

I attempted donating you points, but to no success. I know it doesn't mean much, but I'll send you the 88 points I have as a small gesture.

This topic can be locked now, I know what to do. :]

EDIT: I've donated you 84 points.
