WIKIPEDIA DEFINITION OF PSP

"Running homebrew software on the Playstation Portable has become very
popular, but is hindered by the fact that the PSP firmware is a moving
target - Sony is patching exploits as soon as they are found. The first
version of the firmware allowed unsigned code to be executed without any
exploits. In the upgrade to this (version 1.5), two exploits were found
to run unsigned code-Swaploit (which involved 2 memory sticks) and
Kxploit (which only required 1). Versions 1.51 and 1.52 (which shipped
with new PSPs) combated these exploits. In the next version of the
firmware, an exploit was found in the PSP's image viewing software that
could use buffer overflow to run small pieces of code, including PONG.
This exploit was used to create a downgrader, so that version 2.0 PSPs
could return to 1.50 state and run homebrew software.

Recently there has been a way of running Homebrew on a 2.0 software of
the PSP using a TIFF image overflow. The "EBOOT" loader was made by
Fanjita who's website can be found at www.fanjita.org

On January 9, 2006, Fanjita exploited a flaw in GTA, by releasing a
homebrew Tetris application that would run under firmware revision 2.50.

Later that month, Fanjita released a GTA Exploit Eboot Loader for PSP
firmware revisions 2.01, 2.5 and 2.6."

MOVIES ON YOUR PSP FROM A DVD

First thing you want to do if rip one of YOUR PERSONALLY BOUGHT DVDs. Ripping rental or copied DVDs is illegal. To
find a DVD Ripper you can search Google for "DVD RIPPER" or download my
personal favorites, DVD Decrypter. I do not know why, but this ripper
was taken down a while ago. Another good decrypter is Super DVD Ripper.
This can be downloaded , HERE Once
you have you VOB. Movie file you will need to convert this into MP4
format, also know as MPEG-4. Many free converters can be found but I
found that after a DVD is converted it is easiest if you use pspvideo9.
this can be found at www.pspvideo9.com. From after the download you
will want to convert, so open pspvideo9 go to settings and pick what you
want you quality you would like you videos to be. To see if a certain
video can fit on your psp go to "profile picker" tab and see which
setting fits your needs then click save at the top. Then you go to the
setting tab and pick where you want you to output your videos. To start
to convert your videos click the convert tab on the left. Then press
the "ONE-CLICK TRANSCODE" select your video and let it convert. When it
is done converting you will now want to put it on your psp. Go to the
selected output folder and copy those two MP4 videos. Open you psp thru
USB mode, then open MP_ROOT/100MNV01/ Paste your videos into that folder
and you are good to go. Now when you go to the video icon on your psp
there should be a Video there. Make sure that it is named M4VXXXXX.MP4,
you can have any numbers be X, example: M4V12345.MP4

--COMMON PROBLEMS WITH MP4s--

1Q. Where do I put my videos?
1A. In your Memory Stick (the root, see above), create a folder named "MP_ROOT" if one is not already created. Then, inside of that, create another folder named "100M4V01". Place your MP4s and s (optional) in here.

2Q.The sound is not aligned with the video
2A. This is a common problem with many MP4s. Either the conversion was off, or the ripping was off. Try using a different program to convert your movie, especially one which is specifically designed for the PSP.

3Q. The Video showed up as corrupt data on my PSP
3A. The converting process may have been interrupted, or you may have selected a format other than MP4.

4Q. Why do some of my videos have thumbnails, and how do I change it?
4A. Some converters create individual thumbnails for each video. Do edit it, go in the folder with your videos. You may see a video file named "M4V00001" (or something similar), along with a THM file with the same name. Use MSPaint, Photoshop, or other image editor to edit the image. If you wish to delete the thumbnail, just delete the THM file for the video you wish.

STARTING HOMEBREW
(Note: Homebrew cannot be played on firmwares 1.51 or 1.52. If you have this firmware, update to 2.00 and then use the MPH Downgrader to downgrade to 1.50, for full homebrew capabilities.)

For 1.5 USERS- Under GAME, select Memory Stick. You should see your application listed here. Select it to start.

For 2.0, 2.01, 2.5, 2.6 USERS- Due to security updates, homebrew can no longer be run through the Home Menu. Use these individual methods for running homebrew on your PSP.

For 2.0 USERS- Use the overflow TIFF image on your PSP to allow homebrew to start.

For 2.0, 2.01, 2.5, 2.6 USERS- Use the new TIIF exploit to run homebrew.

Downloads the latest version at :
http://files.fanjita.org/psp/eloader097_nocache.zip

For easy install for Windows user you can go to
http://files.fanjita.org/psp/eloader097_nocache.exe

FOR 2.01+ USERS-

1. Get the right version of the eloader.
2. Some files will go in "GAME", the ROOT, "UTILS", etc...
3. Make sure that you have every file in the right place.
4. Start GTA, load the Eloader gamesave(**MUST NOT AUTOLOAD** it will say corrupt)
5. Go to START then load the eloader. This should lead you to a new area. If you se a PSP on the right you are successful.
6. To get games download them from you favorite site *cough* PSPForums.w3.to *cough* then place the games on PSP/GAME (if there is a 1.0 or 1.5 download get the 1.0)

FOR 1.5 USERS-

1. Get a game, make sure it says for 1.5
2. If you look at the folders there should be 2 folders

PORTALS

This is one of the very cool things that the PSP offers besides
homebrew, and what
is also great about this is it does not require you to have wireless
access. There
are many popular portals, but for this readme i will show my example as
X5 by
psp3d.com . First download the portal (duh), then place it in
PSP/COMMON/
Then go
to the Internet browser and enter where your index.html lies. On X5 the
index happens
to lie in PSP/COMMON . So you would enter the following
file:/psp/common/index.html
Don’t forget the .html at the end. If you have entered it correct then
you should
see your portal.

NOTE: Some portals have there index named something different, read the
readme to see
what it is named.

HOW TO USE FontHacker 0.93

This is a little program that lets you edit and manage your fonts from
your PC to your PSP. Download from http://psp3d.com/FHacker093.zip .
This is pretty self explanitory, to get a font go to C:\Windows\Fonts.
Then in the program you can edit where you like the shadow, or how big
you like the font. From there you are ready to go.

USING THE RSS ON 2.6+

*Works on 2.6, 2.7, 2.71 Only*

For this to work well and sound good you must have a very good WIFI
signal strength.

First go to a website that offers a good RSS channel. I personally like
this one site called google.com. well click on the RSS icon and download
the channel. When you go to the Network Settings on the menu and click
on the RSS icon your channel should appear. This is exactly like
listening to a MP3 thru your Music Menu.

GET MUSIC ON YOUR PSP

For the PSP to play the music it must be in a MP3 format. You can NOT
just transfer music from itunes to your psp. Itunes music is not in MP3
format, it is in a MP4 format with added security. Mac did this so
people would not steal there music, but there is a way around this
security. You must first burn it on a CD. Then from the CD convert it to
a MP3. Also, it does not have to come from itunes, if you buy a CD from
a story it will be just like after a burn from itunes.

First thing you will want to do is download a good CD to MP3 converter,
such as "Free CD to MP3 Converter". This can be downloaded at
http://www.qwerks.com/download/7779/cdtomp3freeware.exe or
http://www.eusing.com/Download/cdtomp3freeware.exe Look at a pic here
http://www.eusing.com/Images/cdtomp3free.jpg

Unlike your videos, these can be named whatever you want it to be. Once
they are converted just drag the MP3 to PSP/MUSIC folder.

NOTE: Very easy to download music from a P2P and just drag and drop the
file.

GET A WEB BROWSER ON YOUR 1.5

I have personally tried t his and it worked good enough for my tastes.
Before i go into detail there is one requirement, you must own the game
Wipeout Pure. If you do not own it i advise u to buy it, the gameplay is
ok, and you can go on the internet. This was discovered after they learned
you could download tracks and cars from a web based page.
How this works is really ingenius, By chamgeing the primary DNS they could
make it not go to the download page, but a page of there own. This is
actually pretty simple to do though, which is always good. First thing to
do is go to the system settings, then follow by going to the bottom and
clicking on system settings. Scan the area for a high percentage SSID.
When it asked you for manuel or automatic press automatic everytime untill
it says DNS settings. Whenu are there you will want to change the numbers
and the pattern till you have 67.171.70.72 Go open Wipeout Pure as usual,
go to the downloads section and start it up. you should not go to the
downloads page, rather a portal by PSPforums.w3.to , from here you can go
to google, or just enter a url in the address box. This is not a cool or as
complicated at the 2.0+ browsers, but it does what it needs to do. Have fun.

VIEW A DOCUMENT ON YOUR PSP

There are a few ways to view a document on your PSP, but i will only name a very
easy way, where you dont have to download anything.

1. This way is very easy and takes only a few seconds. First thing to do is
open your ******d document. Then select all the text, you can go to Edit
then Select All. After that you will want to Copy what you just selected.
Then open a Picture editor, such as my favorite Paint, and put up a text
entry. All that is left now is a simple paste. Then you should see your
text. This is now viewable on your PSP, have fun.

HOW TO EDIT A EBOOT

First thing you should know is that this is not how to edit the contents or
mess with the game or do cool things like that. This is just a way to take a
eboot apart so you have the icons, the pics, music, and the data files. This
is very usefull if you are making a grafix edit and want to change the icon
and the pic that appear when you look at the eboot in the game menu. Once
you extract you can also change the names of the games by opening the PARAM
with notepad. Then editing the name in the middle to whatever you want.
Dont edit anything else or you will mess up you game from working.

GET A FLASH FILE ON YOUR PSP

NOTE: This will work for all versions version, but the method of doing it is a bit different.

First thing to do is go to the page of your favorite flash file and extract it. To do this go
to the View toolbar then the Source. That is the page, look through it till you see
www.(Whatever it is).swf THIS IS GOLD. Go to google and paste the lnk in the box. It will have
a icon below that says you can directly go to that page. Right click and Save Target As. There,
you should now have the flash (swf) file.

1.0/1.5/2.0/2.01/2.5 People: To view your flash you must do it through the File assistant, this
can be found at http://s15.invisionfree.com/PSP_Foru...?showtopic=408 Just simply press
X on the file of the swf. on your psp.

2.7 People: Go into your browser and type in the location on the file, such at file:/psp/flash/coolgame.swf

ATTENTION!! All these methods are really really laggy.

HOW TO PLAY GAME DEMOS ON 2.7, 2.71, AND 2.8

First you need to make sure that you have either 2.7 or 2.71. To find this out you can go to
Settings-->System Settings--System Information. If you do not have 2.7 or higher you can download the new
version at (http://www.us.playstation.com/PSP/Support/SystemUpdate) or at the Network Update Icon on your PSP.
Once you know that you have 2.7 or higher it is not time to to get a game, woohoo. Download English version
(must have 2.71) Loco Roco at http://home.comcast.net/%7Ewickedwiz/psp/EBOOT.PBP Or the Japan version (Must
have at least 2.7) http://www.jp.playstation.com/R/dl0530_locoroco Place the file in the correct files as shown.
PSP/GAME/UCJS10041/Eboot.PBP Go to the game icon and beneath you should see your game.

PROBLEMS
Q: I do not see my game
A: It is placed in the wrong folder

Q: File is shown Corrupt
A: Something went wrong while downloading

DOWNGRADER 2.5/2.6 to 1.5
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK USE AT YOUR OWN RISK USE AT YOUR OWN RISK USE AT YOUR OWN RISK USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK USE AT YOUR OWN RISK USE AT YOUR OWN RISK USE AT YOUR OWN RISK USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

This is a amazing feat and i suggest all user with a 2.5/2.6 do this NOW!

REQUIREMENTS:

PSP 2.5/2.6

Grand Thefo Auto

A psp with a motherboard NOT of a TA-082 . (find this by looking in the top right of the UMD drive
towards the LCD screen. You can see the green motherboard from there. If there is any writing you are in trouble,
this exploit will not work for you. If there is nothing there you are good to go.

**ATTENTION**
DO NOT TRY THIS UPGRADE IF YOU HAVE A 32MB MEMORY STICK!!!!!
this exploit created files that might exceed the limit for you memory stick which might cause a brick.

**For this hack the psp will need a Firmware dump of a 1.5 PSP's flash files. The files are copyrighted so PSP3d and
I will not post a link. To help you get the files there is a easy tool which extracts the files. Download it
at http://psp3d.com/1.50%20HELPER.zip Once you have a dump follow the instructions below.

*Get the required files at http://psp3d.com/DOWNDATER_FINAL_AUTO.rar*
Password is I_Use_It_At_My_Own_Risk

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.Place the Downdater folder in the Root(main folder) of your memory stick.

2.Place the correct folders in PSP/GAME

3.Start Grand Thefo Auto and go to the eloader. Open the Downdater game and let it sit.

4.You memory stick LCD on the left should start blinking (THIS IS GOOD)

5.Wait till the PSP stops flashing, then turn it on my holding the powerslide up.

6. If all went well you should have a 1.5 psp, if not im very sorry.Remember I said USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

DOWNGRADE 1.5 to 1.0

This is basically the same thing as the 2.5/2.6 to 1.5 downgrade.

You will need a 1.0 flash dump. Like i said earlier it is up to you to find it.

!!MUST READ!!
The downgrader must be run on a 1.50 PSP. It cannot work on any other version.

DOWNLOAD THE 1.5 downgrader from PSP3d at http://psp3d.com/DOWNDATER100.rar
Remember the password is I_Use_It_At_My_Own_Risk

NOTE:
All apps that deal with Flash (Devhook, flashmod, X-FLASH, MPH FW launcher, etc...) and ISO loaders will not work on 1.0. This is not because it is
impossible, but the other apps we coded for 1.5, not 1.0. Once these apps are coded for 1.0 it should work flawlessly.

REMEMBER THAT THE X AND O BUTTONS ARE SWITCHED!

HOW TO USE INSTALL DEVHOOK

Devhook quite could be the best thing that ever happened to the PSP. Many gamers, like myself, love using homebrew,
but we also would like to use the interne tbrowser or play the newest game demo by sony. Before devhook this was not
possible. With devhook we can play Super Mario Mini then ten minutes later go into psp3d.com and check out the newest
game. In the last few months sony has tried to hurt Booster by telling the site he was hosting off not to release
anymore, and to erase all of the old files. Why would they do this? Well, to you devhook you must get a dump of the
flash file in the PSP. If you didnt know, those files are illegal unless you decrypted them yourself. And unless you
have 2 PSP's then you cant. So i will leave it up to you to getting those files.

INSTRUCTIONS:

This is a basic procedure. Just go to a site that has all the devhook files (Make sure there is a "dh" folder) and
place it in the ROOT of your PSP. If for some reason your find that when your start up devhook there is a problem
remember that your psp's MHZ must be at 222, not 333.

With the newer version of Devhook there us now the ability to launch ISO's. Even ISO's the require 2.712 firmware!

DOWNGRADING A 2.71

Xtrusion has released a amazing program that makes downgrading a 2.71 almost idiot-proof. (I said almost)
What is amazing about this is how easy it is done, just open up the program on your PC (sorry MAC users) and follow the questions asked.

But remember, this is a freeware program and has no warranties. This means that if you brick your PSP doing this no one is to blame but you.
(our your little brother )

****"Despite it has been tested and it has worked, a program that rewrites a big part of the flash(flash0) is always dangerous. You are the
only responsible of whatever happens to your psp using this unlicensed program.***)

Download at http://fileupper.com/files/42/Downgr...%5D.71LITE.rar

HOW TO PLAY HOMEBREW ON 2.01-2.6

At the moment there are two ways to play homebrew on a 2.6. One is to downgrade to 1.5 and play all the fun games then if you need to play a higher
firmware UMG just load devhook. For the other people who feel like staying at 2.6 there is always the option on using the Eloader. With the new
version of this eloader the game Grand Theft Auto is not required. That means ANY person with 2.6 can play SOME homebrew.
Playing is VERY simple. Just go to the eloader Tiff and a eloader menu should pop up.(A Eloader menu just lists all the games you have in the
PSP/GAME/ folder) If you have a awesome game and you dont know why it is not working there could be a few possibilities.

To find games that do work with your FW make sure to visit the game databasee http://psp-homebrew.eu/firmware.php?...r&view=working

Download the eloader at http://files.fanjita.org/psp/eloader098.zip

GAMES ON 2.8

As of this post there are only a few games, but if you are on 2.8 you probably don’t care what games they are, and long as they are homebrew.
We all gotten give big props to fanjita and ditlew who put out the SDK so devs could release there own games. To play the games go to the
game tiff in the photo menu. If all went right, you should be playing your game in no time.

GAMES:
TRON http://psp3d.com/tron.zip
PONG http://psp3d.com/tiffpong2psp3d.rar
TETRIS http://psp3d.com/tetris280.zip
