Ultimate Beginners guide part 1

This guide is for the COMPLETE, out of the pack, newbie. It covers the following topics:

Uploading and playing movies and music
Uploading and viewing pictures

Firstly, you will need a PSP datacable. Try and get one that charges at the same time, to prevent memory stick corruption.

OK, time to get started!

Firstly, turn your PSP on at the side, without any game in the UMD drive.
Once your PSP has turned on, you will see the main menu, from know on reffered to as the XMB (cross media bar).

Connect the mini-usb connector to your PC and the top of your PSP, and if there is a second lead, the power slot. Now, browse to the far left icon, and go to USB connection (second icon down)

Your screen will now display USB CONNECTION. Hopefully, your computer will make the 'hardware detected' noise and, after a quick driver install (if it asks, just select install automatically), you can access the memory stick by going to my computer/Removeable drive (X), where x can be almost any letter.

If this drive is entirely empty, you have never used your Memory stick, and should go onto your sps's XMB again (by pressing O) and find Settings->System Settings->Format Memory Stick™ BE WARNED! If yor psp has any content IE saved games, reformatting will WIPE THESE!!! Be sure to copy ALL content off your PSP before reformatting.

OK. Now open the USB connection again, and find your PSP in my computer.
We will cover the easiest ones first: Pictures and music.

There should be a folder named PSP on your MS (memorystick). Open that. If there isn't, follow the above steps to format your memor stick.

To put music on, simply drag and drop, or copy and paste, from your computer to X:\\PSP\Music. For Photos, its just X:\\PSP\PHOTOS.

Movies are a little more complex, simply becuse they must be in the correct format. To solve this, this small free application can convert many formats and name your movies in the right format too!
http://www.nurs.or.jp/%7Ecalcium/3gp...nverter034.zip

On setup, choose MP4 For PSP, Direct, Renamed. set where you want to store your converted movies, and then drag a movie clip into the white box at the top for it to convert.

Once its done, simply place it in the following folder:
X:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01

And your done.

A Side note: The .thm file is the thumbnail. If you rename it *.jpg, where * is its name, you can open it in an external application like paint or Photoshop and edit it. This file must go on the PSP too, or you wont have any thumbnails.

I hope this gets some newbies started on the PSP scene. Next is Homebrew for 2.xx!!!

Nice guide! Only the Format MS is in XMB->Settings->System Settings->Format Memory Stick™.
