Using homebrew on 1.5

Using Homebrew on 1.5

To use homebrew on 1.5, you need to put two folders in PSP/GAME - whatever and whatever%, where whatever is any filename. For most peices of homebrew, there is either a 1.5 folder with these folders in it, or just those folders. However, sometimes a peice of homebrew comes with only one folder, with only one EBOOT.PBP. This guide will tell you how to boot those bits of homebrew.

Option 1 - NOKXPLOIT Chance of working with a peice of homebrew - 100%

NOKXPLOIT is an application that runs on your PSP. It comes already in the two folders, so you don't need to do any tricks. Just put your homebrew and this on your PSP by putting the two folders NOKXPLOIT and NOKXPLOIT% in the X:/PSP/GAME folder, where X:/ is your PSP drive on your computer. Ignore the folder SRC, this is the code for the developers. Run it. Your PSP will restart, and you can boot the homebrew.

Option 2 - Sei PSP Tool/KXPLOIT Chance of working with a peice of homebrew - 99%

Sei and NOKXPLOIT both do the same thing in essentials, but Sei has a few extra options, so I recommend you use that. Just start it (it runs on Windows), tell it which drive is your PSP, direct it to the folder with the EBOOT.PBP of your homebrew and the extra folder if there are any, and give it a name. Sei will do the rest for you. If the checkbox was checked, there should be no corrupted image for that homebrew, too. But if your homebrew came with extra folders, you will need to move those into the folder without the %.

Corrupted Images
There are several ways to hide the corrupted images - I will tell you the best.

Option 1
Using Sei PSP Tool, select the large icon on the left hand side with 'Corrupted Images' at the bottom. We will use RIN as an example, with one of its folders called RIN and the other RIN%. I would select my PSP drive from the list, and type in RIN in the box, and click OK. A message pops up saying the folders have been renamed. The corrupted images are now gone.

Option 2
Rename the files "__SCE__whatever and %__SCE__whatever", where whatever is anything. (Thanks MTsol!)

Option 3
Rename the files to "whatever(28 spaces)1", and "whatever1~1%" (thanks nathan151!), where the first was originally the one without the % and the second had a %. Where it says (28 spaces) insert 28 spaces.

Converting 1.5 EBOOTs to 1.0
Open SEI PSP Tool. Along the side there will be several pictures, with text underneath each. Select the one that has 'Convert 1.5 to 1.0' underneath. Direct it to the EBOOT.PBP of the folder with the % in the first box, then the EBOOT.PBP if the folder with no % in the second. Click convert, the tell it where the 1.0 EBOOT should go. Click Save, and a message will pop up saying that the EBOOT was converted sucessfully. This won't let you play ISOs on 1.0, though.

The attached file contains all the necessary tools to do everything in the guide. It can be opened with WinRAR, or you can rename the extention to .zip and open it with Winzip, StuffIt, or BOMArchiveHelper.

Please leave comments.
