Thanks and a few ?'s...

Hello all. I have been reading these forums for awhile now and wanted to thank you all for your help. I recently got a 1.52 PSP which I was able to update to 2.0 and then downgrade to 1.5. I loaded a few emulators and other software and I am sooooooooooooooooo pleased. And it is all due to the help given by this forum. Y'all rock.

I do have a few questions. I have 3 issues...

First, I loaded a few emulators. Nester fror NES and snes9xTYL for SNES (which are the problems). When I go to load the emulators off of my Memory Stick, each emulator has a currupt file next to it. If I erase it, the program no longer works. Is this due to the naming convention of the emulator files or is this just the way it is and I cannot do anything about it? I also loaded a Genesis emulator and it is fine...I do not see the corrupt data file. ???

Next, I find that at times, when I save my files (SNES especially) on my memory stick, when I go to reload them, there is no sound. I have seen this tonight with Zelda 3, Conta 3 and Super Mario World. Does this mean I have corrupt game roms or is it my save feature? Is there anything else it could be???

Finally, I have noticd that some games are running way slow. For example, Clay Fighter and Donkey Kong Country to name two. Why is this? Do I need an upgrade? Am I setting the emulator software improperly (I don't know how I could reset it in this case). Why do some games run great and others look like they are in slow motion?

Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to post info on this site. And thanks for any help anyone can give me. PSP IS AWSOME!!!!!!!!

-Chris

1. just rename the folders __SCE__snes9xTYL and %__SCE__snes9xTYL (thats 2 underscores on each side of the SCE, so a total of 4 for each folder) and that will get rid of the corrupt icon

2. i have no idea how to fix that, i have that problem too sometimes...

3. you could just up the frame skip and it will run faster, but if you put it too high it will look like its skipping around

edit: oh, and that naming scheme works for all homebrew (that i know of) and will get rid of all your corrupt icons. the only problem with it is i guess that IRshell wont recognize those folders or something... (maybe other shells too)

Welcome to PSP 3D bro. Glad ya got your first problem fixed.

As Cobra said, try changing your frameskip to like one, and also try reducing audio to lowest quality KHz. It doesn't make a huge difference in actual quality but a great difference in speed I believe.

The new naming convention works great for the SNES emulator. But with the NesterJ NES emulator, although the corrupt data IS gone, the emulator doesn't seem to recognize the roms. If I change the naming convention back, the roms are recognized again. I have tried all combinations of %__SCE__ and I just can't get the roms to be recognized unless I label it simply NesterJ and NesterJ%. Any ideas???

It might be because not all homebrew works with the SCE method.

some homebrew have hardcoded paths, if you feel up to the job i'd recommend dark_alex's proof of concept custom firmware it allows you to use 1.0 style pbp's (single folder no corrupt icon) or you can use it to hide the corrupt folder completely and just show the icon.
but as stated only use if you feel up to the job

I suggest usint the PSP App manager program and sending the corrupt icons to the bottom. This way, all the corrupt icons will be sent to the bottom of the game menu.

The link is in the homepage news section somewhere, just search.

Hey djcopey...thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't seen Proof of Concept til you mentioned it. I booted it up and all the corrupt images are gone (plus all the other extra goodies this allows for. One thing...I am trying to set up my PSP so that only one folder is needed in the game folders for emulators and the such. What folder do I kill and what do I move? I tried moving files around but to no avail. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
