is there a way to prevent a brick?

What I mean is for firmware v2.80 is there a way to prevent from being bricked? Is there a way that sony made v2.80 "unbrickable" such as recovery mode or something?

-all help/comments apprieciated..just don't say "don't homebrew or download etc"

Not for 2.8. It's be nice if Sony included something like this, but as far as we know, they didn't. I'm somewhat curious though, as to how they unbrick all the bricked PSP's that get sent in.

Sony "Un-brick" them using a special NAND-Flash writer via the serial port.

And no, I highly doubt there's a brick prevention system. Sony can't stop the little "noob" from randomy deleting critical system files. If the files are broken, the PSP doesn't boot properly. If it doesn't boot properly, you can't recover it without the use of extra hardware. Also, how do the downgraders work if Sony has a brick preventer? Where do all the bricks come from?

Heh, a pretty silly question if you ask me.

AHH!!! I remember that artical about the serial port re-flasher. But you do have a point...there is no reason for Sony to make a recovery thing because (at least to them) there should be no way for you to mess with your flash0. No messing with flash0=no chance of bicking.

Actually you can prevent a brick. Use the RM.

Since most bricking is the result of homebrew use, I doubt Sony would make an anti-bricker since I called Sony one time and asked and they said that Homebrew voids your warranty.

the only way to avoid bricking is to never use flash accessing eboots, this includes homebrew and firmware updates that write flash data. and the only way to ensure no flash access is to run the eboots through the pspsafe software the checks for any flash access (read or write) and warns you. there are some measures to un-brick psp's (D_A's custom firmwares) but these involve writing to the flash in the first place (bricking chance) and only cover the gameboot or font corruption and nothing covers the init.prx, so the only true method is no flash based eboot.pbp's

Christen your warrenty can't be void with the use of USERMODE games/apps because there is nothing in any agreement between u and sony that u will not use other non-sony games since alot of homebrew doesn't access the flash there is no reason/way they can say that!
and djcopey how do u plan on evening editing init.prx's i don't really think (besides custom firmwares) that there is a flasher that flashes to any MAJOR flash files (unless a trojen brick of some sort) so basically if u stick to the NORMAL flashers u will be able to recovery it will D_A's custom firmware recovery mod (although D_A's custom firmware does access MAJOR operating files, so if u mess those up well.... i guess ur f***ed lol )
