i was playing twilight princess...
cause zelda games rock (almost a good as final fantasy ones- dont hit me- lol)
and it started this trail of thought....
wii amazing....
nintendo own sega...
wii runs on linux...( I think)
DreamCast ran on Windows CE... dreamcast just as old as N64 and PSX now...
and I was just wondering,
whys there no Dreamcast emulator for the psp (or is there)
i mean look at the spects:
the Processor ran at what? about 200MHZ i think
the display was about 8MB video Ram
and sound was about 2MB
and i think the psp could handle it ok....
(what do you think)
just think sonic adventure.....
with sonic running toward you lookin like hes gonna jump outta the screen,
and cannon into your head...
Or....
Shemue....

The two systems differ so much that emulation is very difficult.
It's like, a while ago, there was a guy that said playing Windows executables on a PSP would be easy, provided they were simple. Wrong.
The emulator needs to allocate a very low amount of memory to the image in question, as only 8-10mb can be used under normal situations; this is a lot less that the image would be allocated on a PC.
The PSP then needs a way to read and understand the code, so that's time consuming. You then need a real-time interpreter to redo all the input from the image, enabling the PSP to understand and put the code to use.
This, understandably uses a lot of CPU and memory, which the PSP seldom has.
The emulator then has to force the image to understand button input that comes from a PSP, difficult, particularly if the origin console has quite a few buttons or triggers.
So, it's a lot harder than just opening, reading, and displaying what's churned out. That's why developers have trouble.
There are so many more elements that complicate the process, it would take hours to list and explain them fully. |
